Now I am afraid to go in the arcade.  The last time I saw the high stress error, I had achieved a good score on zookeeper

I've got to see if I can write a mod to show me what is running when that occurs. the new server should be fast enough to handle all the site traffic, so it really baffles me that it still shows up once or twice a month.

I had a feeling it was the statistics software, and just got an email that confirmed it.  I don't even use the stats generated for the server, so I've disabled them.  Let's see if that perks things up a bit.

I ran backups today, and it strained the server most of the day.  The other board also got an upgrade at the same time, which didn't help matters any

no... it might have been Tam moving an old thread or something... or browsing the attachments folder.  Still trying to see what it is.

I'd hate to purge attachments, but I don't think the software is meant to handle the number we have.

yeah, it was definitely something with managing the avatars... the software kind of stinks at running a good log of events like that, so not sure what you did to trigger it.

not sure you need to delete attachments... though maybe it wouldn't hurt...  5 years worth of attachments does add up, and I have to keep it all backed up, etc.

The avatars? I didn't do anything with the avatars. Just the attachments.
Weird.

I went to the attachments, browsed the files, then sorted them so that the non-members were first. Then I just deleted them page by page. I went form around 2004 - 2006 so far with non-members, and when the forum gave that error, I was still loading pages perfectly fine. That is the bizarre part. Normally if Philip gets the error, I get it too.

Only other thing I can think of is the last page I did it to had attachments at the maximum limit size. There were probably 6 of them. Would deleting all of those at the same time caused the server issue? If so, I will be sure not to do that again. 8)

I meant attachments... oddly enough it's almost identical code for managing both of those sections.

it was probably the sort, it had to reorder them, it said something about a temp table, which is something you would make for a change like that.

I had one take ten seconds... might be something else running at the moment... the server does host my other sites as well, which with 100,000 page views a day, means it's serving a lot of pages at the same time.

Do you want us to keep reporting things like that in this thread?  Or should we just assume you are working on the problem?

I don't think it needs to be reported at this point.  The most useful thing is for when Tam spots them to send me the output from the script I have to monitor the server (if the server isn't too busy to respond)

If you click on 'started by' it puts the whole of that area into alphabetical order.  If you want to 'jump' through the pages you sometimes have to click on that again to resort it.

You can probably also sort by 'views' and 'replies'

Is it me, or are the boards becoming slow again?

We have recently moved the router nearer making things better here, so that was the reason I asked.

no problem... an easy way to check is to look at the time it takes to build the page at the end of every page on inthe00s, if it's more than a second, it's definitely on the server's side of things.

4:40 I just signed on here and got my first Internal Server Error message which said The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.  Got on a minute or two later and am here now. whatever

Around 20 minutes ago, inthe00s became very slow in uploading pages and at one stage would not load up at all.

It's a bit slow over here

Page created in 0.072 seconds with 11 queries.

and shouldn't the page be created in less than a minute?  ??? Why does it take more than a minute or two? ???

The pages back then would not even downloading, as if the website did not exist.

I got an alert from my hosting provider.... there was a bunch of processes stuck on.  No idea what caused it.  If it happens again I'll have to look into it more I guess.
