I might've stepped in ... but you specifically asked for Chucky.  >:(  So he did'nt come to your rescue soon enough .... huh!  ???  Well, you had to wait around. That'll teach you !  :P  ;D

I saw your tears in 'red x thread' .... and felt sorry for you ?  ???  :-\\    ;)

Ok. I use a program called snagit to resize images. However, I believe it isn't free (why would I say that ..... hmm.)

I think you can do it in Microsoft Paint! and the like, and there are probably freeware image editors ... look for that on the net in google if you like. Type in 'freeware' image editor resize ..... and see what comes up (in google).

However .... this may be the simplest solution:

http://resizepic.com/    No software / technical knowledge required. You can do it online in an instant. There are other sites that do the same thing !

Here's another such site ... you might prefer ? http://www.resizeyourimage.com/

Looks like those sites don't handle images with a .bmp extension though ....

Looks like THIS one does .... so, probably the best choice:    http://www.online-image-editor.com/

^ That's how your pic looks at approx 250 times 250 (249 X 263, actually). As it's in jpg format ... making it larger unfortunately has a negative result in quality ... especially noticeable on the words!  The picture has been compressed in this format .... so it looks worse as it gets bigger. Files saved in bmp do not suffer from this ... but are much larger. Large file size pics will take a long time to complete loading to these pages .... that may turn some people off from your posts ... especially those with a slow internet connection ! (No wonder not everyone likes me ?  ???  :-X  :\'().

It's a trade-off.  With programs like snagit, you can fiddle around to get the lowest file size (makes pic loading quicker) AND convert the images from one format to another.

Bare in mind, your final picture, independent of size, can only be as good .... quality wise (not better) than the original ..... so you need a good start !

By the way, I've just had a squiz at those first two sites I posted... not too impressed with them now. Having too much trouble uploading anything from that first site.

Second site, seems to be severely limited in its resizing ..... but that last one I mentioned  ( http://www.online-image-editor.com  seems to be a 'goer'!)  It even links directly to imageshack, as well as allowing conversion between different image formats !  8)

Some instructions I've cobbled together for the site I've recommended above ....

1.On the opening page .... click 'Convert during upload' box to indicate BMP. Make sure you have the adjacent box checked (something I failed to do, during first experiment !).  :-http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/8016/thjustcheckingtq3.png

resized to 260 X 260 .... but in the .bmp format ! (As good as it gets ... I'm afraid .... since you didn't start with the original pic in that format (although I did convert the compressed jpg to that format before re-sizing).

Makes sense ?  ???

The size of your new ostrich  bmp file:  77.55 KB (79408 bytes)  ... admittedly SHOULD be larger, as its 260 x 260 .... but .... the jpg file .... which is not much smaller in viewing area ......

8.88 KB (9092 bytes) . Now, is that a big saving or what ?  ???  That is .... were those words THAT much sharper ?

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/8016/thjustcheckingtq3.pngVersus ->http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/69/thjustcheckingvo2.jpg
Converted to png  ^ (by Imageshack)... was bmp                  The much smaller file size ^ .... jpg. Vastly inferior  ???  :-\\

You have to decide how bad it looks, and whether the quality gained is worth maybe pissing people off cos their page takes forever to load due to your pic. I think that's more of a concern when the pic is approaching a Megabyte, or more .... although not too sure when that 'kicks in'  (the point of irritation at slow loading).  :-X

Here endeth the tutorial.  ;D  :D

P.S. Since, in this case, the quality difference is negligible, you'd generally be best off having jpg selected at step 1.

One solution for better quality definition  might be  to hunt around for that pic in .bmp format .... maybe typing in a some of the caption... along with .bmp in google ? However, I couldn't come up with one in this instance.

Still, ... I managed to come up with it in jpg form .... which is ideally what you'd want to ultimately convert it to ..... (hey someones already done the work for you). But ..... in this case.... you'd probably  want to resize it smaller !

Just doing a spot check to see what you are doing !
