Subject: Your Favorite Video Game Console

Written By: mach!ne_he@d on 03/24/08 at 9:46 pm

For some reason, I've always liked the Super Nintendo more than all other gaming consoles I've gotten since. In part, I think it could be because it was my first console(I got it for Christmas when I was 5, not long after it had come out). But also, the SNES has a very impressive library of great games exclusive to the system, including Super Mario World, Super Metriod, Final Fantasy III, Donkey Kong Country, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, and The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past just to name a few.

I've been playing games for almost 20 years, and have plenty of other systems ranging from the Atari 7800 to the Playstation 3, but I think you could make a very legitimate case for the Super Nintendo being the best ever.

I have

Nintendo
Super Nintendo
(Nintendo 64 made me vomit so I gave it away)
Sega Genesis
Playstation
Playstation 2
Playstation 3
Xbox (not 360)

PSP
Gameboy Advance

I love my PS2 and play it more than anything else....although I have a soft spot for the NES because Punchout is still one of my favorite games...

To be honest I haven't played my PS3 yet... I am waiting for Grand Theft Auto to come out next month.

I don't have a particular favorite...

Here's what I have:

NES
SNES
Sega Genesis/Sega CD combo
Sega Saturn(Speaking of which, I need to rehook this one up)
Gamecube
Gameboy Advance player(an accessor for the Gamecube, it allows you to play Gameboy and GBA games on it)
Gameboy
Gameboy Color
Gameboy Advance

Used to have a PS1 and PS2 as well as a Sega Dreamcast... they were stolen back in 2006... Although the thieves who did this were doing me a favor with the Dreamcast... It stopped working around late 2005, if I remember correctly.

I had a NES and my brothers had the SNES and N64.  as far as the variety of games I'd have to say the SNES has the best selection.

The Turbo Grafx-16 will always be my favourite.  It was short-lived and not many games were made for it, but I Still loved it.

Here's what I have ...

Commodore Vic-20
Atari 7800
Nintendo Entertainment System
Turbo Grafx-16
Sega Game Gear

I haven't gotten into these new fangled games.  I'm still stuck in the world of 2-D platform games with cartoon graphics

Good choice. I have always thought the TGX-16 was one of the more underrated gaming consoles. I never owned one, but a friend of mine had one many years back, and I always had alot of fun playing it.

If memory serves, wasn't the TGX-16 an early adopter of CD-ROM technology in home consoles? I seem to remember it having a CD-ROM add-on several years before Sega came out with there's for the Genesis or original Playstation came out.

To my recollection, it was the first home system to have a CD-Rom.  It was later repackaged as the Turbo Duo:  Turbo Grafx on one side, Turbo Grafx-CD on the other.

Some interesting trivia:  One of the early games made for the Turbo Grafx-CD was called 'Fighting Street' which was an adaptation of the original Street Fighter arcade game.  Although the original Street Fighter was ported to many computer consoles, the Turbo Grafx-CD remained the only non keyboard video game system to feature it until the PlayStation came out with Capcom Classics

The Turbo Grafx-16 was also the first non keyboard video game console to port the arcade classics: Pac-Land and Bloody Wolf as home versions

Out of the old school computers I preferred the Spectrum +2. Despite it's colour clashing it had a certain garish charm all of it's own.

Out of the consoles, I have an Xbox360 and I think it is an incredible machine (despite some of the teething troubles people seem to have with it) but, like Machinehead, I am fond of the Super Nintendo because of the different games that were on offer back then. Some of my favourites were Super Mario World, Contra III, Streetfighter II and Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts.

Nintendo 64 was awful and despite it's 3D graphics, it sunk when the Playstation came along.

Yeah I'm an Xbox 360 owner and mine hasn't broke yet thankfully. lmao.

I've had many game systems at one time or another (still own the bolded systems):

SNES
Genesis CDX
Saturn
Virtual Boy
PS1
Game Boy/Game Boy Pocket/Game Boy Advance SP
PS2
XBox
XBox 360

Dreamcast

Nice one, I bought an X-Box360 and it broke a day into buying it. This one I have now, touch wood *taps head* I have had no problem with and it's been about a year now. I think the troubles came about because of the motherboards and hard-drives but, the way I see it, if computers can handle them so can consoles.

I only wanted the Dreamcast for The WWF Royal Rumble at the time. The whole idea of having 8 wrestlers in the ring at the same time was a mind-blowing feat back then . . . Technically still is.  ::)

I got my Xbox 360 on launch day back in '05, and it worked well until just recently, and I've had to send it in to get fixed. After all the stories about malfunctions among launch consoles, I actually feel pretty lucky that it made it this long.

According to this it was the first. I saw something dating the CD-ROM add-on back to 1990, which seems way ahead of its time when you consider the biggest game of the year was Super Mario Bros. 3 for the NES :o

The TurboGrafx was also the first console with 16-bit capability. It was released in Japan way back in 1987.

The first stock of X-Boxes had major problems with consoles conking out all over the shop (I think the original X-box went through a similar thing at the start of it's launch) though I believe Microsoft have fixed them since.

Yeah, I believe most of the early consoles were effected by the "three flashing red lights" problem, which is exactly what happened to mine.

I've had:

Ps1
Ps2
Gamecube
Xbox
Xbox 360
Countless gameboys
PsP
My favorite overall is my 360, though i do have a softspot for my ps1. i think my 360 is my favorite mainly because i'm much more of a "gamer" than i ever was before.

I really don't much like portable systems. I really didn't like my gameboys and my PsP is only good for podcasts and porn.

sega genesis:

sonic
sonic 2
sonic 3
sonic & knuckles
thunder force 3 (epic)
shadow dancer (has anyone ever beaten the lizard king without game genie? I still can't do it.)
mortal kombat 2 (32X version much much better)
streets of rage
streets of rage 2 (two player on hardest mode and a big ol bag o weed)

Other systems I own include ps1, ps2, ps3, nes, snes, gamecube, and n64.

nes and snes tie for a uncomfortably close second. I like gamecube the least. RE 4 saved its square little butt.

I can't find my PSP. I last remember seeing it in April or May in my car. My car has not been broken into and nothing else is missing. It's quite possible I broght it in the house and set it down somewhere unusual. I really need to clean up but for now I am totally annoyed because I was almost done with Vice City stories!
