Subject: Bad video games over the years...

Written By: Step-chan on 04/02/08 at 7:05 pm

Thought I'd start a thread about horrible games, regardless if they were official or unlicensed, what system they were on, etc.

I'll start with an unlicensed NES game called Action 52, I've fortunately haven't played the game, but I've seen videos of it on youtube. I'll share the pain with a few vids of it.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11L56mDXqTA

This how bad it is... Here's a game with very bad glitches:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3wsxm3FJyg

Here's one with only one level(Note, the guy shows Mega Man 5 at the end, very refreshing after that crap):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ym3L09jInw8&feature=related

Last one(Cheetahmen):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTyqFcl5-tQ

On another note, the people who made Action 52 also made one for the Genesis later and made an unreleased sequel to Cheetahmen.

What are some the worst games you've seen?

I used to own the Action 52 cartridge.  It was very bad.  To fit all those games on one cartridge and still keep the quality of the graphics, eadch of the games were crap

The worst video game I have ever played is still 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' for the Atari 2600

Ya know, I was struggling to remember the worst game I ever played.. you just nailed it. I'm not sure if the game was bugged or had a wickedly tough section, but I never got past that part where you endlessly fall past all the platforms (there might have been a bottom - it's been 25 years...). About the only thing I remember about that game was that part and that it sucked big time.

I used to think it was bugged, but long ago, someome on another messageboard told me he'd beaten it and even told me how.  I can't quite remember, but everything needed was found hidden in the very first screen.  I feel sorry for people who originally bought the game brand new in 1982.

LOL I totally remember that game.  It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either.  When that game came out, I remember thinking "Who in their right mind would give Bill Laimbeer his own game?" ;D

How about E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial for the Atari 2600?

It was so bad, they buried copies of it in the desert, and it helped to almost destroy video games altogether.

Good call.  8)

E.T the video game single-handedly crashed Atari which made way for new computers/consoles. It makes you wonder what computer games would have been like if E.T was a success.

From what I heard, the game cost around 200 dollars when it came out. From what I've seen of the game in action, it ain't even worth a penny.

I wish I could have appreciated it's notoriety earlier, snoz. My first computer was an Amstrad CPC 464 in 1987(yes all 64k of it - and to put it in perspective, a 128 bit music track has more memory than an Amstrad) and I was playing 'Oh Mummy' (which was a pretty dire game in retrospect) and Defcom (which again was pretty awful).

I don't know what it is but, when you're a kid, a good sense of taste goes out of the window.  ;D

Any 8bit based on a movie- most notably Ghost Busters 2

From my personal experience
Nintendo- Ghostbusters 2
Super Nintendo- Harkaakk--something
Playstation- Warhammer:Shadow of the Rat.

I've noticed that most games based on movies end up being bad.

There have been exceptions, though... I've played at least a few that were actually fairly good. Gremlins 2 for the NES was pretty good, although that's more of a matter of taste.

Those platforms are mesa fields.  You needed a grappling hook in order to swing down them.  I found a solution for the game on YouTube and just watching it, i'm like "How the hell was anyone supposed to know how to do any of that stuff?" lol

That Friday the 13th video game was indeed terrible.  It was a good idea for a game, but the way they chose to do it sucked ass.  There was also a NES game based on 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' that was just as bad lol

Barnstorming was pretty lame, which was the exception for most Activision games for the 2600, I thought most of their games were superior to the ones programmed in-house by Atari.

I remember when E.T. came out, it seemed very confusing.

Another game I had that I thought blew was Ikari Warriors for the NES. At first it seemed kind of cool to have a Rambp-type game, but it just kept going on and on and the background music was irritating as hell.

That video is hilarious. I haven't laughed that hard at a video game related youtube video in a while ;D

Total recall, another game that was reviewed by Seanbaby(as well as other game reviewers).

Most arcade versions were alot better than Nintendo conversions. For instance, the arcade version of TMNT was ported for the NES. Although not a horrible game conversation, it was watered down in gameplay abit. The graphics are not like the arcade(due to NES graphic limitations), but that's not a particular issue.

Mat Mania Challenge was also known as 'Exciting Hour'

There was also a game called 'Tag Team Wrestling' that stood out from the rest because in order to do a move, you had to punch the guy first, then while you have him in a hold, push another button to select which move you wanted to do on him, then push the other button to activate the move

Yeah, new Disney games are crap, but alot of the old ones are superb.

The best ever Disney game is a two-way tie (both on Sega Genesis) with 'Fantasia' and 'Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse'

What kind of games are those, like platform games? Because they sound really, really bad. 8-P

I loved the Castle of Illusion game. I played it all the time on my friends Genesis before I got my own.

Yeah, those sound pretty pointless.

What they need to do, if they are going to do games like that, is spice them up alittle.

Raven VS The Cheetahmen from Action 52. Action 52 is so hated that a Disney game that's about destroying it would probably be good. :D

If they made a 'Suite Life of Zack and Cody' game where Ashley Tisdale was naked, then I would buy (about 10,000 copies of) it :D

Does anyone remember the "Make My Video" series of games from the early and mid '90s? There was one for Kriss Kross, INXS, and Marky Mark And The Funky Bunch. They were really bad, just like all the "FMV" games from around then.

No wonder the Sega CD add-on never really took off. ;D

I read Seanbaby's reviews of them, which definetly bashed them.

There are some games I've played abit that would've been better if the overall execution were improved.

Deadly Towers on the NES is one of those games. It was a good idea, but ended up being a mess due to a couple of flaws in the design.

1. It's too easy to die early in the game, there are enemies that literally kill your character in two to three hits.
2. The hidden dungeons are random and very confusing, you don't find entrances to them, instead you walk into  certain spots to enter them.

It would've have been a solid game if these things were done right.
