Subject: Pandemic 2

Written By: Red Ant on 05/04/09 at 10:08 pm

Want to infect the world with your own Swine Flu? Or the Super Ebola virus? or maybe just a nasty case of Patella Flagella? Then this is the game for you:

http://www.crazymonkeygames.com/Pandemic-2.html

I have to simultaneously thank and smite Foo Bar for bringing this game to my attention. On one hand, it is damned near impossible to win (i.e, kill the entire planet), on the other, it is very realistic in that it's nearly impossible for any disease to kill all of mankind.

A joke to Foo: Madagascar is a double edged sword. In the game, I've only infected it twice: once by starting there (a vaccine was developed), once by infecting it (but Peru escaped my wrath). If real life was like this game, Madagascar would be the safest place on the planet -- unless one started the disease there.  ;D

That about sums it up.

I'm smiting you and Foo Bar.  I just infected Western Europe with a parasite that is air and waterborne.  It's slow going, but the results should be fun. ;D

So, how's life in Madagascar? ;)

Optimal strategy for me was to sell off all symptoms as soon as the game began, and to just spread very slowly, with zero visibility.  Once it sneaks into Madagascar, then you've got the game.  Crank up your resistances by a few notches to screw with the vaccine development process, work on transmitting far and wide, and only then unleash the lethality.

Of course, there's no substitute for a game where the disease starts in Madagascar.  Unless you get a little too enthusiastic...

Awesome! On this family-friendly board, I cannot list the name of my favorite parasite. I might try "Los Plagas" though: they are pretty persistent in RE4.

My first thought was that pic was affected with the Photoshop virus. On second look, the shipyard of Madagascar is greyed out, and if one was ham-fisted enough with symptoms, then it's entirely possible to get that result.

Either way, killing off Madagascar is a win, even if everyone else survives.

That picture is truer than you think.  I've just wasted spent 2 1/2 hours playing that effin' game.

Ha!  I went with the standard "Your Mom" bacteria, and then I had a "Tequila Worm" (I was looking at our dog, hence the name "Tequila") parasite.  The last bout I got rid of everyone except Peru, Argentina, North Africa, and.........Madagascar. :P :P

I truly have no life.  I did a dance of glee when I infected Madagascar.  The only holdout is Greenland.

I started in West Europe with a parasite. Took away all traits. Walked away for an hour or so - 60 EPs and only 16 people infected. Walk away for another hour. 75 EPs, 12 people infected. Added cold 2. Walked away for another 20 minutes. 80 EPs and 75 people infected.

Added boils, cysts, unlocked upper tiers, added necrosis, drug resistance 1,2,3. Left for another hour. Game over, only Peru and Argentina survived.

Speaking of Peru:

"President Peru, 50 million people in Brazil are dead"
"So?"
"and we have unconfirmed reports that a butterfly sneezed in Madagascar"
*Chaos Theory runs through his head*
"SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING!"

Good job Jessica! You'll find with Greenland that even if you KILL everyone, their hospital tends to stay open.
