Ooohhhh... a wordy question.

Well, it was the New Wave.. but is now the Old Guard. Hmmmm.. good question indeed. I think that would have to be decided by a linguist, something I'm not.

Motorhead are a British band. I would consider them part of the New Wave, but definatly toward the later end of it. They played with a speed that set them apart from the previous heavy metal bands like Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. That's what the NWOBHM was all about, taking the Heavy Metal roots, adding the speed element that was an ever present in the punk scene and combining them.

Right, Sabbath were part of the original heavy metal scene, in fact, some might say they pioneerd the doom style.

Will we ever see a second NWOBHM?

To begin with Def Leppard were indeed pioneers of the NWOBHM style. EMI were torn between taking on either Iron Maiden or Def Leppard (they chose Maiden thankfully). Then they went over to the states and took on a very different style. Essentially 'selling out' (and I don't like to use that phrase too often) by drastically changing their sound to fit in with the L.A scene. i.e hair spray and sparkles.

Although, Love Bites was and is a kick ass song.  ;D

Well, these things all go in cycles. First came the New Wave, then came Thrash, then came Grind, then Black and Death Metal, things then took a progressive turn and now we're seeing a return to the gritter power chord based style with major grind influences.
I don't think there will be a second wave along the same lines, but Heavy Metal is and always has been a British export and I do believe that in the future more great bands will indeed come from Britain.

Diamond Head are forgotten legends. In much the same way that a lot of popish bands point to the Stones and the Beatles as idols, all manner of metal bands point to Diamond Head as Gods!
They were way ahead of what was going on at the time and were the main pioneers of the New Wave as far as I'm concerned. Without Diamond Head bands like Maiden, Fate, Priest etc wouldn't have got half the recognition they did.. and never mind the influence that Diamond Head had on the blossoming Bay Area thrash scene.

Plus.. Am I Evil is the Bomb! Nuuuuuuuggge.

That's a question that dosen't have a clear answer. Without the New Wave there would be no death scene.. at the same time, certain elements in the death scene have gone beyond what was done before. It's a totally different style that can't really be compared.

Yes, I also prefer Black metal over Grindcore. There are some great grind bands but the genre is a closed book really, there's only so many times you can stick a drum machine on max and discuss topics regarding the defilement of dead infants. Black metal is more of a mindset. A northern european, anti-christian mind-set, hellbent on the destruction of Judeo-Christian society.

I agree with 80% of this statement. I say this because I believe that 80% of The New Kids On The Block were indeed assclowns. However, after they broke up, the remaining 20%, which would be Donnie Wahlberg, went on to earn my respect as an actor. In particular, he won me over with his performance in the HBO mini-series Band of Brothers. I don't know if you've ever seen that mini-series (and if you haven't I give it my highest recommendation), but Donnie Wahlberg was great and it's one of the best films about WWII that I've ever seen.

He played Sgt. Lipton, who, as the series went on, rose up in rank to first sergeant and ultimately got a field commission to second lieutenant. He was the guy who pretty much kept everything together during the siege of Bastogne.

Ok, since I'm the guilty party who introduced NKOTB into the mix, I now issue this challenge to you all: If NKOTB would represent one extreme of music and NWOBHM would represent the other, what band would represent the perfect compromise between the two? Who would be the perfect blend of 50% NKOTB and 50% NWOBHM?!?

Is there really such a thing? Or would pondering this question cause you all to do this?

Well.. Ronnie James Dio, I guess you could sort of lump him in with the NW crowd (even though he's not really) he's a pretty boy, so that takes care of that.. you'd have to stick at least a couple of Gibsons with him and a marshall stack.. hmmm, toughie.

This just shows your ignorance.

1) Pantera don't exist anymore.
2) Pantera were in no way a NWOBHM band.. they were from Texas and has their major success in the 90's.
3) One member of the band that was Pantera is dead and another isn't far off.
4) Neither Rex nor Vinnie could be gay, therefor the only one it could be, would be Phil Anselmo. Now, he did spend some time in jail, maybe he got a taste for it.. I dunno.

Well.. as butch as the standards of the time allowed. Black leather and spandex dosen't lend it'self to the hard man image.

Although the NWOBHM is essentially the old guard now, when it appeared it was the new wave, getting rid of all that post-punk-pop crap.
