You live in Amish country....yet you have a computer.
I therefore conclude that you are NOT Amish?

That would be correct.
However some Amish have cell phones. They're not allowed to have electricity in their house but they are allowed to have it in their barns. Guess it's kind of tough using a computer in a barn. :)

Not a weird as you may think.  About 8 years ago the cops nailed a cocaine ring here.  The Hell's Angels were getting Amish to sell cocaine.  The Amish not knowing much about the drug culture did it.  The though behind it was no one would ever suspect an Amish guy to be selling drugs, it was perfect cover for a while.  That's what you call a WAKE UP CALL!!!

I've been to Kitchen Kettle Village.  They makes some of the best jams.  Paradise is a nice place to visit.  All though it gets really crowded around the time of your arrival. (tourist season is from the end of may till Mid-Sept.)  Strasburg Railroad is a neat place.  You are going to Shady Maple aren't you?

The Amish (not to be confuse with Old Order Mennonites)  Reject such things as pride, individualism, vanity, infant baptism.  There are also different sects of Amish.  But those are the basics.

They don't wear buttons because the military wears buttons on their clothes, and they don't want to be confused for the military...so they don't wear them.  The same goes for mustaches.  This is obviously a little archaic, but it's what they hold on to.

Because I am assuming that when this particular rule was made, the only people who had buttons on their clothes were the military.  Look at photos of uniforms back during the Civil War era.  Lots of buttons.  And mustaches are not the same as beards.  You will not see an Amish man with a mustache.

It's history.  We're big on historic preservation here.

It's chillier here in New York and it won't get any warmer until the weekend.

Well..we found out that the place in Paradise is booked for when we want to go....so, we are quite possibly staying at one of the suites above kitchen kettle village...my parents stayed there and they loved it.

June is prime tourist season.  Most of the hotels and motels on Lincoln Highway are not going to have vacancies.  Hope you can get one near Kitchen Kettle Village, but if you can't I would try to get a room at the Eden Resort.

Well...since we will have Vaughn with us..and my parents with us...we will be doing mainly kid friendly stuff. We are planning on going to Dutch Wonderland one day....going to the Hershey's Chocolate Factory, and maybe the Hershey Zoo....taking a train ride and visiting the Thomas the Tank Engine Museum, ..etc. Now..Chris and I might go back in the fall (by ourselves)...so I will definitely plan some of the out of the way things that you suggested for that trip! :)

There is a huge "antique mall" right near the Strasburg Railroad.  Of course you'll probably go to the Visitor Center.  The outlets are right near Dutch Wonderland.  Gee, hope you guys aren't planning on being too touristy. :P

I LOVE antique shops/malls...I think I will have to check that out when Chris and I come back in the fall. It's so hard taking Vaughn to places like that.

Vaughn would probably like the Hands-On House Children's Museum of Lancaster.  It's kind of like the Chucky Cheese of art and Science. :)
