What makes Rush so popular?

I am not very familiar with this group or their music, but I'd like to know a little bit about them. How did you first get interested in their music?

^its hard to have a favorite album, im torn between Caress of Steel (1975) and test for echo (1996).

the only member change was during the tour of their first album, the self-titled "Rush". John Rutsey the original drummer, couldnt complete the tour due to complication with diabetes, and he was replaced by neil peart. Same lineup ever since: neil peart-drummer, gary lee weinrib(geddy lee)-bass vocals synth, and alex lifeson - guitar.
