Written By: DeutscherGirl on 03/16/08 at 8:59 pm

Ok, no, I do not like living in Vegas, I have only lived here in total for about a year. I grew up on Cape Cod,in Massachusetts. I haven't really been to any big shows or concerts but I'm hoping to get tickets to see My Chemical Romance at the end of March. I haven't played the slots in a couple years, once you've lived here, you see that its mostly a rip off and when you are broke, you really hate to give your money to a casino that doesn't need it.  I currently work at Wal-Mart but I am a dog groomer by trade, and going to be attending classes for my Bachelor of Arts with a major in History starting in summer. My favorite food is pizza and my favorite drink...alcoholic drink is a Sloe Screw and my favorite non-alcoholic is Coke.

Erm...I am very engaged. ;) We are planning on getting married in May of 2009.

Right now, I do not drive a car, it is dead. I own however, a non-running 1977 Chevy Monte Carlo. If you live in the area and can fix cars, give me a buzz. PLEASE.

Lets put it this way, there was life before the first piece of pizza ::) ..and life after the first piece of pizza  :o  :D How many times I sneeze depends on how much dust is in the air that day. What do  I like about a movie? The story. Plus if it has Johnny Depp, then I like the hot actor.  If I could change my best friends name, I would change his name to Mr. Clean. Maybe then he would try to be that way.
:P The thing in my wardrobe I hate are the jeans that don't fit me anymore! >:(
I have been on a hill too many times to count. I live on a small one.

I disappeared for several reasons. I'll name a couple. I didn't have internet, when I got it again, I didn't use it much untill I started playing World of Warcraft, then it was all over from there. I came back because I was trying to make a list of 80's songs I wanted and the best place to look is the Top Ten lists on the Inthe80s page. Then I checked to see if my account was still here, then I felt nostalgic and put up a post. Here I am.

To ask me what my favorite Adam and the Ants song is is like asking an astronomer to chose his favorite star. It depends on the day for me, but its usually Stand and Deliver. It was the first song of his I ever heard and it still sounds just as new to me after the ten millionth time I've heard it.

Ummmm.......It takes about 5 and a half hours to get to LA from LV. ;)

Sorry it took me so long to answer those, I'll keep on this page better now.

Its mostly for tourists. The novelty stuff like Freemont Street and the Strip are mostly the tourist thing. There are plenty of clubs and such to go to, but a lot of the attractions in Vegas are a tourist thing.

And no, Howard, however badly I wish I was, I'm not joking.

LOL!!!!

If the men that shop in that Wal-Mart were worth taking a pic of, I'd probably consider. But your sexy, young, attractive, Chippendale type's don't generally shop there. Think more along the lines of Superbad teens, middle age guys or even wives and mothers of men too lazy to buy their own undies. Put it this way, I will wear my hair down all day long just to keep my MP3 player on without anyone suspecting. Thats just how boring it is, but at least I've got good tunes!  ;)

Marc Bolan wrote a song called Baby Strange. I love the song and it fits as a name for me somehow.  It has for years now, that one as much as Rio Rhodes. I may think up another one someday, but nothing has been as inspiring as Baby Strange. It fits me like a glove.  8)

I wouldn't say that, if we were going to use musicians as analogies I definitely wouldn't use BSB as my basis for good looking or Meatloaf as my basis for unattractive. Attractive for me is, Adam Ant circa 1980-81, Marc Bolan in the early 70s, Johnny Depp today,or Davey Havok of AFI, thats my idea of good looking. It differs from a lot of people I know. I couldn't uses Meatloaf as a basis for unattractive because I respect him too much as a singer to EVER care about how he looks, the passion he has when he sings would make anyone love him no matter how he looks. Unattractive to me is Marylin Manson goth types, Tom Cruise because of his nose and his ego, both equally large and obtrusive, and for your older guys I'd have to say unatractive is Keith Richards. But hey, thats what happens when you do drugs, your looks go, "buh-bye".

Are you close to Area 51?

Subject: Re: Ask Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Written By: Foo Bar on 04/08/08 at 3:30 am

Are you close to Area 51?

I'm not the guy you were asking, but anyone within an hour of Vegas is within a day's driving distance of Area 51.  I'd encourage anyone in Vegas to make a trip to the Little Ale'Inn and pay their geeky respects at the border of Dreamland.  The border of Area 51 is one of the things that makes America great.  Only in America would the border of one of our best-secured military installations be a tourist attraction

A trip to Vegas with a side trip to Area 51 offers the greatest possible contrast between the feeling of security and the reality of security.  The best security is unobtrusive.

The feeling of security (and the absence of freedom) is illustrated by going to an airport and having a subliterate TSA goon bitch you out for having a 3-oz tube of toothpaste in a small sandwich bag, because although the regulations say that it must be three-and-a-half ounces or less, they also demand a one-quart bag, even though the regulation freedom baggie is larger than the sandwich bag you used.  Make one wisecrack, or even just an innocent question about policy, and you're not only gonna miss your flight, you're gonna get the rubber-glove treatment.  The TSA isn't interested in protecting the public from threats, it's only interest lies in protecting itself from political liability, and it does so by terrorizing the travelling into terrorized compliance.

Real security (and real freedom!) is being able to rent a car from the airport, and two hours later, be taking pictures of your intrepid party at the border of one of the best-secured military bases on the planet.  Cross the line, and you're gonna have a miserable day.  But so long as you stay on your side of the line, whatever's behind that border is secure.  You can grin and wave at the camo dudes, and they aren't even allowed to so much as wave back at you.

The difference between the feeling of security and the reality of security is something that cannot be grokked in its fullness until one has been to the border of Area 51 within 24 hours of passing through a TSA checkpoint.

There's nothing paradoxical about the fact that the border of Area 51 is not merely one of the mose secure places in America, it's also one of the freest places in America.

Can photographs be taken of Area 51?

Subject: Re: Ask Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can photographs be taken of Area 51?

"Yes and no."

"Yes"  Anyone can just drive up to the border and take pictures, unannounced.  The road is basically the only way in/out of the place, so it's obviously wired for sound, video, and everything else.  The guards have as much right to be on public land as you do, of course, and they'll have had at least half an hour to react as soon as you turn down the road that leads to the border.  Probably a few hours before that if you've dropped by the A'le'Inn for a burger and to get your picture taken by the Inn's famous flying saucer.

"No"  The place is huge -- it's hundreds of square miles of desert -- and from the border, you can't see anything but the famous sign.  But that's still pretty darn cool.  The desert's a beautiful place all by itself, and you've been driving deep into it for the past couple of hours.  The closer you get, the slower you go, because you really don't want to miss the sign.  But there it is.  An old sign warning that photography is prohibited and deadly force is authorized past a line marked by nothing more than a series of skinny poles pounded into the dirt.

Getting back to my point on the "appearance" versus the "reality" of security -- this is where the U-2 and the SR-71 Blackbird was flown.  This is where the F-117 was tested for years before its official public debut in the Panama conflict.  This is where the B-2 was tested.  This is where the F-22 and its competitors were tested.  This is probably where the headline-making aircraft of the 2010-2020s are being tested.  The best security is unobtrusive, and the security here is so good that the place doesn't even need a fence.

You can hear nothing but the wind and the faint rumble of a guard's idling SUV from somewhere off in the distance.  You feel about as alone as possible, even though you know your arrival has been monitored by innumerable cameras, pressure sensors, and God only knows what else.  Within sight of the border, you could make your life very miserable with one misstep, but as long as you don't make that misstep, you're as close to perfectly safe as is possible.

So you take your pictures, you grin, you wave in the general direction of the idling motor, give him a thumbs-up, and you turn around and begin the long drive home.  That's as close as any of us will ever get to seeing what's in there.  But for an aviation geek, it's another item crossed off the bucket list.

From the stateline? About an hour or two. To get to say, LA from Vegas would be about 5 or 6 hours, maybe more depending on traffic.
