In my experience there were a number of reasons why I may have failed to score MW, and to use your sporting analogy (I shall try to cover everyone) :
GridIron : My play got flagged
Baseball : Got run down trying to get to home plate (more likely first base... :()
Ice Hockey : Iced the puck
Basketball : Got caught double dribbling
Rugby : Made a forward pass
Association Football : Was simply 'offside'

PS2. A PS2 can play DVD's and PSone games. You need a remote to play DVD's on an Xbox. Gamecube uses proprietary DVD's that can only fit and be played in Gamecubes.
