Subject: Game Time! ... True or False?

Written By: Sagnastian on 08/19/02 at 02:16 p.m.

Hi all,
This is slightly similar to the Q and A topic but needs more attention and intellect. You are not allowed to post everything about anything. This time there are rules you must abide by to post….Please follow the rules below:
1.) Firstly you cannot just post with a vague answer off ‘True’ or ‘False’ you have to backup your reply with facts either from your knowledge or resource information…So you can only reply to a question if you are 100% certain, and have backup…This is a great way to show off your internet searching abilities…
2.) You must not ask a question, which cannot be answered with True, or False. Example being ‘How long does it take to make a wesite?’ But you could change this to…”You need a service provider to have a website…..? “
3.) When posting a Question always put: “True or False?” as the heading. Then ask the question underneath…
4.) The questions you ask can be about any topic as long as it can be answered by anyone with facts…etc.. Nintendo related, space, maths, English, history etc…
5.) When you answer a Q you must then continue the flow with a question..
6.) You cannot ask a question that only you or a friend knows the answer to. It must be something that anyone could discover from the internet or other resource facilities.. Example:

“True or False?”
I had Toast for Breakfast…? This sort of question is not allowed..

Okay…that’s about it. If you are going to reply to this topic please follow the rules. J
I’ll start it off…Please follow the same structure. Enjoy

True,
The obscenity f***  first known occurrence, in code because of its unacceptability, is in a poem composed in a mixture of Latin and English sometime before 1500. The poem, which satirizes the Carmelite friars of Cambridge, England, takes its title, “Flen flyys,” from the first words of its opening line, “Flen, flyys, and freris,” that is, “fleas, flies, and friars.” The line that contains f*** reads “Non sunt in coeli, quia gxddbov xxkxzt pg ifmk.” The Latin words “Non sunt in coeli, quia,” mean “they are not in heaven, since.” The code “gxddbov xxkxzt pg ifmk” is easily broken by simply substituting the preceding letter in the alphabet, keeping in mind differences in the alphabet and in spelling between then and now: i was then used for both i and j; v was used for both u and v; and vv was used for w. This yields “fvccant vvivys of heli.” The whole thus reads in translation: “They are not in heaven because they fuck wives of Ely .”
Sources: although I knew it was an old word, I wasn't sure how old.  I found the above excerpt on Websters.com

False.  Here's from the Straight Dope website:
The female pope story is generally regarded as a fabrication. "Pope Joan," who supposedly served from 855 to 858, was said to be an Englishwoman who disguised herself as a monk to be with her cleric boyfriend. She went to Rome, where she so impressed others with her learning that she was elected pope. Her secret was discovered when she gave birth during a procession, whereupon she was slain. The story is false, although it was possibly inspired by actual events.

You most probably haven't heard of the Manic Street Preachers because they were accused by critics of being too intelligent for America.  They knew hardly anyone could get their anarchistic and lyrical music.  So I don't think they have been playing much in America, they've played in Cuba though for a special gig for Fidel Castro.

And the answer to my question was False - Richey Edwards (the rhythm guitarist) went missing on February 1st 1995 after apparently committing suicide from the Severn Bridge in Wales.

False? From the website:http://www.jbpub.com/humanbiology/4e/question.cfm?TestID=118

3:  Which of the following is true?
A: Reverse transcriptase is an enzyme used to make copies of DNA from tRNA
B: Geneticists are not yet able to mass produce genes even though they know the sequence of many important human genes
C: The polymerase chain reaction is used to produce large quantities of RNA
D: During genetic engineering, foreign genes are often inserted into plasmids which then replicate inside host bacteria, producing multiple copies of the gene

Correct answer is D
Reason: A is incorrect because it is used to make DNA from mRNA) b. Geneticists are not yet able to mass produce genes even though they know the sequence of many important human genes (is incorrect; mass production is a well established technique) c. The polymerase chain reaction is used to produce large quantities of RNA (is incorrect; it is used to produce copies of genes)
