Miss Zella I ask,
Did you miss a syllable?
Your haiku has fault.

I believe the Shakespearean sonnet has 14 lines, the first 10 of which have a certain rhyme scheme and the last 4 having a different rhyme scheme...

Subject: Re: Haiku #3!

Written By: Bobo on 10/29/02 at 02:40 p.m.

In the proper sonnet, the octave (the first 8 lines, consisting of the first two verses), has a rhyme scheme of 2-3-6-7 and 1-4-5-8. ie, either side of a four line stanza, if you like. Each line contains 5 accents, in a di-DAHH, di-DAHH, di-DAHH, di-DAHH, di-DAHH form.

The last six lines consist of a sestet... this is, two verses of three lines, where the rhyme is adjusted by a stipulated rule.
