Subject: inspiring lyrics (song or poetry)

Written By: Zella on 11/03/02 at 06:11 a.m.

Okay, Bobo, here is our thread except it is too early for me to think of something to start with! Do you want to make the first contribution, then, or should I delete the post and start it later? ) Actually, I do have something, but can't recall all the words, so I would have to go look it up! ::)

Well, Bobo seems to have disappeared on me, so I will explain and see what I can do here!

This thread is for people to post bits of verse or song lyrics that they feel are inspirational to them, or merely interesting in some way. You can post from your own poetry or songs, or from published poem and songs -- you can post entire poems or songs or just parts of them...

Okay I'll start it off

Here is part of a well-known Australian poem about the joys of living in Australia...

It is called 'My Country' by Dorothea McKellar

It is inspiring to most people, but I always associate with the first line of the verse I am quoting underneath, and I find it a bit depressing....

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror –
The wide brown land for me!

The rest of the poem is quite inspiring....

Okay, here are a few lines from "Curiosity" by Alastair Reid:

...well he is lucky. let him be
nine-lived and contradictory
curious enough to change, prepared to pay
the cat price, which is to die
and die again, and again
each time with no less pain...

...and what he has to tell
on each return from hell
is this: that dying is what the living do
that dying is what the loving do...

I posted this in another thread once, but it is worth repeating:

I want to win you with words
Want to paint you in verse
Want to lead you in the sun
What else is dreams?
It seems the only way
That I can thank you, thank you, baby...

From It Won't Be Long by Alison Moyet:

One of these days, I'm waiting on a day
When nobody comes to trample my meadow
Biding my time, there's gonna be a time
Might take a while, but changes are coming

And it won't be long
When everything you said
Won't sit around and pile up with the traffic in my head
And when I wake up
I won't see you on the bathroom floor
In the tangle of clothes we left lying there
Won't be long, won't be long

This was written by one of my late son Blaines class-mates, by Anali Siegle

One second
That's all it took
To take a life
That meant so much,
To so many

One second
That's all it took
To look death in the eye
And say "Take me instead"

One second
That's all it took
Not a moments hesitation
To decide
To put another before himself

A lifetime
That's how long
We will remember

Blaines best friend Rob (Who he had known since kindergarten) passed away from complications after a bone-marrow transplant, one month to the day before my son died.  This is what it says after the poem....Blaine Steele was working with the Expressions staff to get a poem that we could include in the magazine for his friend Robert, but unfortunately he was unable to.

I was told that this poem was written in part by Blaine but completed by his wonderful friends on the staff....

God saw him getting weary,
He did what he thought best,
He put his arm around him
And whispered "Come Rest".

The Golden Gate stood open-
He could no longer stay,
With his farewells left unspoken,
He gently slipped away

To those of us who loved him,
And whose parting brought great pain,
This world would seem like heaven,
If we had him back again,

All of you with loved ones,
Cherish them with care,
You'll never know the heartache,
Until they're no longer there......

Blaine and his friend Eric had gone to visit Erics sister in Wyoming a couple days before Rob died.  When they found out he would die soon they headed back as fast as they could.  Rob died at noon March 26, 2001 and unfortunately, Blaine and Eric were unable to arrive here until 4pm. I will never forget they're cries as we told them...and holding my son while he poured out his pain...I'd no idea that in less than a month I would experience the worst pain of my life.  I apologize to all for this venting.  To those who may not like this...just do what I do when I don't like something on TV...I look elsewhere. Thanks to my friends for being here....

Maybe not inspiring as such - but well written and beautifully sung by Carole King.....

It's too late baby now
It's too late
Something inside has died
And I can't hide
And I just can't fake it....

It used to be so easy living here with you
You were light and breezy
And I knew just what took you
Now you look so unhappy and
I feel like a fool....

There'll be good times again for me and you
But we just can't stay together
Don't you feel it too
Still I'm glad for what we had
And how I once loved you....

Meatloafs For Crying Out Loud;

I was lost 'til you were found
But I never knew how far down
I was fallin' before I reached the bottom
I was cold and you were fire
And I never knew how the pyre could be burning on the edge
Of the ice field

I was damned and you were saved
And I never knew how enslaved I was kneeling
In the chains of my master
I could laugh ah but you could cry
And I never knew just how high I was flying
With you right above me

For taking in the rain when I'm feelin' so dry
For giving me the answers when I'm asking you why
My oh my for that I thank you
For takin' in the sun when I'm feelin' so cold
For givin' me a child when my body is old
Don't you know for that I need you
For comin' to my room when you know I'm alone
For findin' me a highway and drivin' me home
You gotta know for that I serve you
For pullin' me away when I'm startin' to fall
For revvin' me up when I'm startin' to stall
And all in all for that I want you
For taking and for giving and for playing the game
For praying for my future in the days that remain
Oh lord for that I hold you
Ah but most of all
For cryin' out loud
For that I love you

Mary Black sings the most wonderful lyrics......

The Thorn Upon the Rose

Its taste was sweet like summer wine
The heart that beats in double time
So he waltzed right in and bowled you over
And you're still reeling from the feeling when he's gone
The door is closed the lock is turned
And all the memories and letters have been burned

So when you pick the handsome flower
Don't forget the thorn upon the rose
It's cut is deep and the scar lasts forever
It follows love where ever love goes

Just how we fall it's hard to know
When what we feel we seldom show
So we show the parts we feel are best
We squirm around the edges trying to cover up the rest
And you think you know him and he thinks the same
When underneath it all it's just a crazy guessing game

Win or lose it's just the same
Tears of joy tears of pain
They're hand in hand they come as one
You'll never see the moon without the promise of the sun
For all the bruises for all the blows
I'd rather feel the thorn than to never see the rose

BY THE TIME IT GETS DARK

Baby every cloud has a silver lining
Baby every dog really has his day
And it matters to me to see you smiling
Why don't you blow all your cares away
Yesterday is gone and will be forgotten
And today is where every new day starts
Got to be free as the leaves in the autumn
You may be sad but it will never last.

Mabye by the evening we'll be laughing
Just wait and see all the changes ther'll be
By the time it gets dark............

I always remember a poem me and a friend wrote together in year ten (two years ago now):

Like the wind,
Like sands of time,
Like memories you want to remember,
Blowing away.

Like the rain,
Like the hopes of generations,
like tears in my eyes,
Falling.

I just got home from my step-mothers funeral. This was the poem read by her daughter;

**The Dash**

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on the tombstone...
From begining to the end.

He noted that first came the date of her birth,
And spoke of the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all...
Was the dash between those years.

For the dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on Earth...
And now only those who loved her
Know what the line is worth.

For it matters not what we own;
The cars...the house...the cash,
What matters is how we live and love,
And how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard...
Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left.
( You could be at "dash mid-range" )

If we could just slow down enough
To consider what's true and real,
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more,
And love the people in our lives...
Like we never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile...
remembering that this special dash
Might only last a while.

So, when your eulogy's being read
With your life's actions to rehash...
Would you be proud of the things they say...
About how you spent your dash?

From Terry Jack's hit, "Seasons In The Sun"...

"Goodbye to you, my trusted friend
We've known each other since we were nine or ten
Together we've climbed hills and trees
Learned of love and ABC's
Skinned our hearts and skinned our knees..."

For any dog lover who has lost a dog, or any animal whether or not senseless. My sister had this poem in one of her books about animals. :'(
We Called Him Rags by Edmund Vance Cooke

We called him "Rags."  He was just a cur,
But twice, on the Western Line,
That little old bunch of faithful fur
Had offered his life for mine.

And all that he got was bones and bread,
Or the leavings of soldier grub,
But he'd give his heart for a pat on the head,
Or a friendly tickle and rub.

And Rags got home with the regiment,
And then, in the breaking away --
Well, whether they stole him, or whether he went,
I'm not prepared to say.

But we mustered out, some to beer and gruel,
And some to sherry and shad,
And I went back to the Sawbones School,
Where I still was an undergrad.

One day they took us budding M.D.'s
To one of those institutes
Where they demonstrate every new disease
By means of bisected brutes.

They had one animal tacked and tied
And slit like a full-dresses fish,
With his vitals pumping away inside
As pleasant as one might wish.

I stopped to look like the rest, of course,
And the beast's eyes leveled mine;
His short tale thumped with a feeble force,
And he uttered a tender whine.

It was Rags, yes, Rags! who was martyred there,
Who was quartered and crucified,
And he whined that whine which is doggish prayer
And he licked my hand--and died.

And I was no better in part nor whole
Than the gang I was found among,
And his innocent blood was on the soul
Which he blessed with his dying tongue.

Well!  I've seen man go to courageous death
In the air, on sea, on land!
But only a dog would spend his breath
In a kiss for his murderer's hand.

And if there's no heaven for love like that,
For such four-legged fealty-well!
If I have any choice, I tell you flat,
I'll take my chance in hell.

From Badfinger :

"Day After Day"

I remember finding out about you
Every day my mind is all around you
Looking out from my lonely room, day after day
Bring it home, baby make it soon
I give my love to you

I remember holding you while you sleep
Every day I feel the tears the tears that you weep
Looking out of my lonely gloom, day after day
Bring it home, baby make it soon
I give my love to you ......

Looking out of my lonely room, day after day
Bring it home, maybe someday soon
I give my love to you

Argent - Hold Your Head Up

And if it's bad
Don't let it get you down, you can take it
And if it hurts
Don't let them see you cry, you can take it

Hold your head up, hold your head up
Hold your head up, hold your head high

Just let them burn their eyes on you moving

Don't let them change a thing what you're doing

These are the most inspirational of all…a Carole King song recorded by James Taylor, "You've Got a Friend."

When you're down and troubled
and you need a helping hand
and nothing, whoa nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me
and soon I will be there
to brighten up even your darkest nights.

You just call out my name,
and you know whereever I am
I'll come running, oh yeah baby
to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall,
all you have to do is call
and I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You've got a friend.

If the sky above you
should turn dark and full of clouds
and that old north wind should begin to blow
Keep your head together and call my name out loud
and soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer or fall
all you got to do is call
and I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Hey, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend?
People can be so cold.
They'll hurt you and desert you.
Well they'll take your soul if you let them.
Oh yeah, but don't you let them.

You just call out my name and you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Oh babe, don't you know that,
Winter spring summer or fall,
Hey now, all you've got to do is call.
Lord, I'll be there, yes I will.
You've got a friend.
You've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
You've got a friend.

IF YOU WANT TO SING OUT, SING OUT

Well, if you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
'Cause there's a million things to be
You know that there are

And if you want to live high, live high
And if you want to live low, live low
'Cause there's a million ways to go
You know that there are

You can do what you want
The opportunity's on
And if you can find a new way
You can do it today
You can make it all true
And you can make it undo
you see ah ah ah
its easy ah ah ah
You only need to know

Well if you want to say yes, say yes
And if you want to say no, say no
'Cause there's a million ways to go
You know that there are

And if you want to be me, be me
And if you want to be you, be you

I was watching four weddings an a funeral the other day (no idea why) and the poem in the funeral scene read by john Hannah is amazing:

(It's called Funeral Blues By W.H.Auden.)

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone.
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling in the sky the message He is Dead,
Put crêpe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever, I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun.
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

WITHOUT YOU (Pete Ham/Tom Evans)

Well, I can't forget this evening

And your face when you were leaving

But I guess that's just the way the story goes

You always smile, but in your eyes your sorrow shows

Yes, it shows

Well, I can't forget tomorrow

When I think of all my sorrow

I had you there, but then I let you go

And now it's only fair that I should let you know

What you should know

CHORUS:

I can't live, if living is without you

I can't live, I can't give anymore

I can't live, if living is without you

I can't live, I can't give anymore

Well, I can't forget this evening

And your face when you were leaving

But I guess that's just the way the story goes

You always smile, but in your eyes your sorrow shows

Yes, it shows

CHORUS 3 times

I can't live, if living is without you.

Now, I often find myself humming this song when I'm feeling like everyone thinks they know what's better for me than I do:

Sunshine by Jonathan Edwards

Sunshine go away today, I don't feel much like dancing
Some man's come he's trying to run my life, don't know what he's asking
When he tells me I better get in line, can't hear what he's saying
When I grow up, I'm gonna make him mine, these ain't dues I been paying

How much does it cost?
I'll buy it!
The time is all we've lost
I'll try it!
He can't even run his own life,
I'll be d*mned if he'll run mine--sunshine...

Sunshine, go away today, I don't feel much like dancing
Some man's come he's trying to run my life, don't know what he's asking
Working starts to make me wonder where fruits of what I do are going
When he says in love and war all is fair, he's got cards he ain't showing

How much does it cost?
I'll buy it!
The time is all we've lost--I'll try it!
He can't even run his own life,
I'll be d*mned if he'll run mine--sunshine...

Sunshine, come on back another day,
I promise you I'll be singing
This old world, she's gonna turn around,
brand new bells will be ringing

Another wonderful lyric :

"I'll Stand By You" - Pretenders

Oh, why you look so sad?
The tears are in your eyes
Come on and come to me now
But don't, be ashamed to cry, let me see you through
'Cause I've been in the dark side too
When the night falls on you,
and you don't know what to do
Nothing you confess,
could make me love you less

I'll stand by you, I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you, I'll stand by you

So, if you're mad, get mad, don't hold it all inside
Come on and talk to me now
Hey, what you got to hide? I get angry too
Well, I'm a lot like you
When you're standing
At the crossroads, but don't know, which path to choose
Let me come along, 'cause even if you're wrong

I'll stand by you, I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you, I'll stand by you

Take me in to, your darkest hour
And I'll never desert you, I'll stand by you

I'll stand by you, I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you, I'll stand by you

And when, when the night falls on you, baby
You're feeling all alone, you won't be on your own

I'll stand by you, I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you, I'll stand by you

Another one (a bit sad though  :()

Justin Hayward - Forever Autumn

The summer sun is fading as the year grows old
And darker days are drawing near
The winter winds will be much colder
Now you're not here

I watch the birds fly south across the Autumn sky
And one by one they disapear
I wish that I was flying with them
Now you're not here

Like the wind through the trees you came to love me
Like a leaf on a breeze you blew away

Through Autumn's golden gown we used to kick our way
You always loved this time of year
Those fallen leaves lie undisturbed now
Cause you're not here

Cause you're not here
Cause you're not here

Like the wind through the trees you came to love me
Like a leaf on a breeze you blew away

A gentle rain falles softly on my weary eyes
As if to hide a lonely tear
My life will be forever Autumn
Cause you're not here
Cause you're not here
Cause you're not here

Here is a poem a friend of mine wrote a long long time ago - I liked it so much I wanted to share it here   :)

Gonna Be A Long Long Time

Well the flowers changed to autumn leaves
And the snowflakes came too late;
And when I felt the pass of time,
I never did relate

That the future all too soon would call
With changes out of rhyme;
But the sun still lights the endless trail:
Gonna be a long long time.

It's hope that opens up the skies
To send a single beam,
And it's love that takes the place of hope
When hope is just a dream.

Tho' I know that they don't understand,
Still happiness is mine;
And I will wait until forever:
Gonna be a long long time.

Eternity will always wait
And it cries out no despair,
For when I say don't go away
I know you're always there.

I'll wait, for memory holds the present,
The future, past -- all mine;
So let forever change to never
Gonna be a long long time.

This Guy's In Love With You - Herb Alpert (or the Reels)

You see this guy, this guy's in love with you
Yes I'm in love who looks at you the way I do
When you smile I can tell we know each other very well

How can I show you I'm glad I got to know you 'cause
I've heard some talk they say you think I'm fine
This guy's in love and what I'd do to make you mine
Tell me now is it so don't let me be the last to know

My hands are shakin' don't let my heart keep breaking 'cause
I need your love, I want your love
Say you're in love and you'll be my girl, if not I'll just die

Tell me now is it so don't let me be the last to know
My hands are shakin' don't let my heart keep breaking 'cause
I need your love, I want your love
Say you're in love and you'll be my girl, if not I'll just die

Here is a Mike + the Mechanics song, replacing 'father' with 'mother'
The Living Years

Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door

I know that I'm a prisoner
To all my Father held so dear
I know that I'm a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

Crumpled bits of paper
Filled with imperfect thought
Stilted conversations
I'm afraid that's all we've got

You say you just don't see it
He says it's perfect sense
You just can't get agreement
In this present tense
We all talk a different language
Talking in defence

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye

So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future
It's the bitterness that lasts

So Don't yield to the fortunes
You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
On a different day
And if you don't give up, and don't give in
You may just be O.K.

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye

I wasn't there that morning
When my Father passed away
I didn't get to tell him
All the things I had to say

I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I'm sure I heard his echo
In my baby's new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye

Flowers by Rozz Williams

"This is my favourite sad story.
Forget me not or I'll forget myself.
I've got quite a few things that I'm afraid of.
Sometimes, I just can't face myself.

This is my favourite sad story.
Forget me not or I'll forget myself.
I guess I'll tuck away myself tonight;
You know, it's been one of those days.

Every pretty flower,
Every lovely flower,
Every deadly flower,
Hides its light inside of shame.

I do not know why you don't know,
I cannot reap what you have sown.
Beneath this blanket of loose soil,
Wrapped around my mortal coil.

Well, a stem is not a rose,
But that is how my garden grows.
I can't see the forest for the trees,
The sinking poison for disease.
Now it's all shot to hell and back again.
I seek redemption for the
Same old sins and I fall on my knees,
And I pray that all the poppies they
They will just fade away.
But fields of poppies they remain.
That's how they found me last time - dead.

This is my favourite sad story.
Forget me not or I'll forget myself.
I've got quite a few things that I'm afraid of.
Sometimes, I just won't face myself.
This is my favourite sad story.
Forget me not or I'll forget myself.
I guess I'll tuck myself away tonight.
You know, it's been one of those days.

Every pretty flower,
Every lovely flower,
Every deadly flower,
Hides its light inside of shame.

I do not know why you don't know,
I cannot reap what you have sown.
Beneath this blanket of loose soil,
Wrapped around my mortal coil.

Irises lay in spring mud,
Where lovers drown each other's sorrows,
Where lovers dream about tomorrows.
As for me, I drown another kind as
Sadness runs course through my veins.
Posie wreaths they crown me.
My heart, my heart.
I should just fade away, fade away...

Like a flower..."

This is really inspiring as it is a song about Anorexia.

Don't end up turning like this

4st 7lb - Manic Street Preachers

I eat too much to die
And not enough to stay alive
I'm sitting in the middle waiting

Days since I last pissed
Cheeks sunken and despaired
So gorgeous sunk to six stone
Lose my only remaining home

See my third rib appear
A week later all my flesh disappears
Stretching taut, cling-film on bone
I'm getting better

Karen says I've reached my target weight
Kate and Emma and Kristin know it's fake
Problem is diet's not a big enough word
I wanna be so skinny that I rot from view

I want to walk in the snow
And not leave a footprint
I want to walk in the snow
And not soil its purity

Stomach collapsed at five
Lift up my skirt my sex is gone
Naked and lovely and 5 stone 2
May I bud and never flower

My vision's getting blurred
But I can see my ribs and I feel fine
My hands are trembling stalks
And I can feel my breasts are sinking

Mother tries to choke me with roast beef
And sits savouring her sole Ryvitta
That's the way you're built my father said
But I can change, my cocoon shedding

I want to walk in the snow
And not leave a footprint
I want to walk in the snow
And not soil its purity

Kate and Kristin and Kit Kat
All things I like looking at
Too weak to fuss, too weak to die
Choice is skeletal in everybody's life

I choose my choice, I starve to frenzy
Hunger soon passes and sickness soon tires
Legs bend, stockinged I am Twiggy
And I don't mind the horror that surrounds me

Self-worth scatters, self-esteem's a bore
I long since moved to a higher plateau
This discipline's so rare so please applaud
Just look at the fat scum who pamper me so

Yeah 4 stone 7, an epilogue of youth
Such beautiful dignity in self-abuse
I've finally come to understand life
Through staring blankly at my navel

Another inspiring song would be Kevin Carter by the Manic Street Preachers (again)

Kevin Carter - Manic Street Preachers

Hi Time magazine hi Pulitzer Prize
Vulture stalked white piped lie forever
Wasted your life in black and white

Kevin Carter
Kevin Carter
Kevin Carter

Kevin Carter
Kevin Carter
Kevin Carter
Kevin Carter

The elephant is so ugly he sleeps his head
Machetes his bed Kevin Carter kaffir lover forever
Click click click click click
Click himself under

Kevin Carter
Kevin Carter
Kevin Carter

If you don't know who Kevin Carter is then he won a Pulitzer Prize for feature photography for a picture of an Sudanese girl barely alive, and a vulture so eager for carrion.
http://home-4.tiscali.nl/~t892660/msp/images/kcpic.gif

Two months after receiving his Pulitzer, Kevin Carter would be dead of carbon-monoxide poisoning in Johannesburg, a suicide at the age of 33.

"Click click click, clicked himself under" simply refers to the fact that photography would be his own demise.

It may have been posted before, but here's some more Mellencamp:
Pink Houses
John Cougar Mellencamp

There's a black man with a black cat livin' in a black neighborhood
He's got an interstate runnin' through his front yard
You know he thinks that he's got it so good
And there's a woman in the kitchen cleanin' up the evenin' slop
And he looks at her and says, "Hey darlin', I can remember when
you could stop a clock."

CHORUS:
Oh but ain't that America for you and me
Ain't that America somethin' to see baby
Ain't that America home of the free
Little pink houses for you and me
There's a young man in a t-shirt
Listenin' to a rockin' rollin' station
He's got greasy hair, greasy smile
He says, "Lord this must be my destination."
'Cause they told me when I was younger
"Boy you're gonna be president."
But just like everything else those old crazy dreams
Just kinda came and went

:|| CHORUS

Well there's people and more people
What do they know know know
Go to work in some high rise
And vacation down at the Gulf of Mexico
Ooh yeah
And ther's winners and there's losers
But they ain't no big deal
'Cause the simple man baby pays for the thrills, the bills,
the pills that kill

:|| CHORUS

A poem which inspired me to debate about religion is by Sylvia Plath and it is also my quote.

It is I Talk To God But The Sky Is Empty

Another inspiring poem would be

Daddy - Sylvia Plath

You do not do, you do not do
Any more, black shoe
In which I have lived like a foot
For thirty years, poor and white,
Barely daring to breathe or Achoo.

Daddy, I have had to kill you.
You died before I had time---
Marble-heavy, a bag full of God,
Ghastly statue with one gray toe
Big as a Frisco seal

And a head in the freakish Atlantic
Where it pours bean green over blue
In the waters off the beautiful Nauset.
I used to pray to recover you.
Ach, du.

In the German tongue, in the Polish town
Scraped flat by the roller
Of wars, wars, wars.
But the name of the town is common.
My Polack friend

Says there are a dozen or two.
So I never could tell where you
Put your foot, your root,
I never could talk to you.
The tongue stuck in my jaw.

It stuck in a barb wire snare.
Ich, ich, ich, ich,
I could hardly speak.
I thought every German was you.
And the language obscene

An engine, an engine,
Chuffing me off like a Jew.
A Jew to Dachau, Auschwitz, Belsen.
I began to talk like a Jew.
I think I may well be a Jew.

The snows of the Tyrol, the clear beer of Vienna
Are not very pure or true.
With my gypsy ancestress and my weird luck
And my Taroc pack and my Taroc pack
I may be a bit of a Jew.

I have always been sacred of you,
With your Luftwaffe, your gobbledygoo.
And your neat mustache
And your Aryan eye, bright blue.
Panzer-man, panzer-man, O You----

Not God but a swastika
So black no sky could squeak through.
Every woman adores a Fascist,
The boot in the face, the brute
Brute heart of a brute like you.

You stand at the blackboard, daddy,
In the picture I have of you,
A cleft in your chin instead of your foot
But no less a devil for that, no not
Any less the black man who

Bit my pretty red heart in two.
I was ten when they buried you.
At twenty I tried to die
And get back, back, back to you.
I thought even the bones would do.

But they pulled me out of the sack,
And they stuck me together with glue.
And then I knew what to do.
I made a model of you,
A man in black with a Meinkampf look

And a love of the rack and the screw.
And I said I do, I do.
So daddy, I'm finally through.
The black telephone's off at the root,
The voices just can't worm through.

If I've killed one man, I've killed two---
The vampire who said he was you
And drank my blood for a year,
Seven years, if you want to know.
Daddy, you can lie back now.

There's a stake in your fat black heart
And the villagersnever liked you.
They are dancing and stamping on you.
They always knew it was you.
Daddy, daddy, you bastard, I'm through.

It is about a girl has lost her father at age ten, at a time when she still adored him unconditionally, then she gradually realizes the oppressing dominance of the father, and compares him to a nazi, a devil, and a vampire. She cannot deal with his death and has to get over the love-hatred and the images that haunt her. After an attempted suicide she marries man as domineering as her father, and leads a short and painful marriage.

Maybe wrong was too strong a word.
I think confused would be a more gentle term, although I shouldn't expect it to change, or for you to agree with me.
My point is that most wars are started because there are too many religions in the world. So technically, the reason most wars are started is because nobody can agree, not even to disagree. So the old song "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" is correct.
