The wife of the vastly overrated Steve Allen is alive.  If she's remembered at all, it's may be for the multiple roles she played in Allen's PBS series, "Meeting of Minds", which included Queen Cleopatra, Catherine the Great, Marie Antoinette, feminists Susan B. Anthony and Margaret Sanger, poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Shakespeare’s mistress as well as Juliet, Kate, and Desdemona.  This was either a case of tremendous acting range, naked nepotism, or something more sinister altogether.
Meadows will always be remembered for her work in 1951's The Fat Man.  Again, from her official site: Based on a story by Dashiell Hammett, who also created the popular "Thin Man" series. The movie starred the world-famous circus clown, Emmett Kelly, who while playing opposite Jayne tried to persuade her to become a clown. When she asked what kind of clown she should be, happy or sad like his character, Kelly said, "Oh, you can’t decide that until I make you up. The makeup tells you, but I’m sure with your eyes you’ll be a happy clown."  Rock Hudson had one line in the movie.
