Subject: The Hollywood-LA Game

Written By: Indy Gent on 06/22/03 at 02:27 p.m.

Yet another version of Mornington Crescent. Try to develop a route to Hollywood using streets from the LA Metro area.
I'll start with

The San Fernando freeway

Any map which could help us (read me) out, Indy? Just wondering...

LOL! There is no such thing as the San Fernando freeway! ;D

So I will start with Sepulveda Blvd.

(make sure you use the accepted "William Mulholland LA Mornington Crescent rules") ;)

Okay, from Sepulveda, let's hop on over to Wiltshire and cruise past the Federal Building

I meant Santa Monica freeway, as you probably have found out by now. ;)
From the Fed Building, let's try Glendale Junction.

I see that Indy utilized the 'Mulholland's exception' rule 8C allowing for the use of a helicopter for a jump over 10 miles (tho' whether this was wise so early in the game is yet to be seen). From lower Glendale then, let's hit San Fernando Road northbound....

Do the rules allow for a stopover for tea at the Burbank mall before turning west along Burbank Blvd?

Can anybody find fault with:

Redondo Beach

(apart from the San Andreas, I mean)?

Per rule 8C? But remember, with 8C, only one per person per game. You have to stick to wheeled transport for the continuum.... ;)

Okay time to hop on the 405 and head back north....

Apparently, I need better maps. :-/

Nah! Just go for it, Indy! I can find a rule to cover any mistake you make! ;)

FYI, Zella, I don't plan to make any more mistakes. Unless of course, you are making crazy rules so that you get there first. :-X ;D ;)

Well you can't drive that Yugo on the 405 so pick an exit! ;D

Well, we've been on the 405 for 4 days now, so that should put us in Upper British Columbia... ::) Better head south again... :P

Tired of being on the freeway, let's exit at Victory and head east...

(thank goodness for Meriadoc, or I would be playing this game by myself ::) )

...and I definitely wouldn't recommend playing with yourself on a public forum: it would probably break half the rules of MC... now, where were we.  I wonder if we can get a full countdown using Whiteley's conundrum:

W 7th St

That was Whiteley who advocated the use of the world's largest Pogo Stick, right? :o

Let's grab Crenshaw south then and see if we can find a good barbeque joint... :)

I was using Whiteley as in Richard of "Countdown" fame... at least, he's kind of famous over here.  Although he has contributed several sets of rules to Mornington Crescent, most of them are such execrable puns that the only one in polite usage is "Whiteley's Conundrum" which is "Nanga Mara"

I'm going for the reverse twist with a flip:

W Pico Boulevard

No ribs for us then!

Might as well take Pico all the way to the end and go north on Ocean and head towards the Santa Monica pier. Maybe it's not too late to grab a sno-cone...

I believe Mulholland's corollary allows for three snack-stops..
