Subject: BBC Code?

Written By: ElDuderino on 09/18/04 at 4:01 pm

What is it? How does it work?

I only know HTML, and I want to post a pic in my sig.

Hi there.

To enter a picture for your signature, all you need to do type (without the spaces), the URL of the place you want to get your picture from, and (again, without the spaces) at the end so that it appears on there. If you click to see your profile, you will then see that your img has changed to img width=X and img height=Y before closing the square brackets. You can change these values to anything you want (so long as it's not too big. Us with tiny slow computers have to cope too!) For example, you would type something like http://ourworld.cs.com/DeceitScnd/bartmarker.jpg (without the period). The image looks something like this:

http://ourworld.cs.com/DeceitScnd/bartmarker.jpg

And makes a square image. This is ideal for signatures and such. You can change the dimensions to anything you like within reason.

I hope this helps. If there are any other problems, we're always here for you to message back to!

Good luck!

Nice pic, Dude.... but would you mind making it a shade smaller given that it's a sig line at the bottom of every message you post? (having said that, I still can't quite make out what it is that's reflected in the glasses)

I wouldn't know how to make it smaller. I didn't make it, I just found it on the net using Google Image Search.

I don't think its a problem, no mods have complained yet.

we've been too busy to notice, but yeah, nice picture and a little too big for a signature picture.  maybe someone can help you out with making a smaller one.

Well, I think he could change the dimensions in the BBC code, by going, http://ourworld.cs.com/DeceitScnd/bartmarker.jpg but make it less than 125 x 600 pix or something along those lines.

Or, if we're looking bytes-wise, my picture of Bart is 2.7 kilobytes (give or take) which converts to 2812 bytes. You can check this by right-clicking and checking out the dimensions label on the properties tag, which gives you the number of bytes.

This comes out at 13.2 kilobytes. Partly because it wastes space being a JPG instead of a GIF. So, to make a smaller image, you would write:

http://www.metroactive.com/papers/metro/07.25.02/gifs/lebowski1-0230.jpg, then the close image tags.

http://www.metroactive.com/papers/metro/07.25.02/gifs/lebowski1-0230.jpg

This comes out at about three fifths of your quota, and thus uses a sensible image size.

I hope this is clear and that I haven't confused you as much as I've confused me.

Sorry Chucky  :-[

I just cannot figure out how to make the image smaller. You know, we should really have a BBC tutorial on here.

Dude, if ya like, what you could do, is a reply with quote on my post, (reply 8 ) and take the code from there, replacing it with what you have at the moment.

Bobo was right, Howard.  It is The Big Lebowski.  A movie starring Jeff Bridges.

(FYI)
You can show your code if you do TEXT around the BBC code you are using.
