Subject: site down for repairs

Written By: Tia on 06/18/07 at 4:30 pm

at home i’m getting this error message saying the site’s going to be down for repairs for a few hours (i’m at work) and dominic just e-mailed me telling me he’s having the same problem. i think it has to do with the move to the new server? anyway, any suggestions for a remedy? i tried clearing my cookies and doing a couple of other things but no dice.

Remember when we switched servers in January and some member's ISP wasn't recognizing the new address?
Well, Chucky gave us information to add to our Hosts file - that information could very well be stopping some people from seeing the new boards right now! My son is wireless networked to me and he couldn't get in. He was using the puter I used to use that I added the info to the hosts file. I had to go in and delete the 2 lines and re-save the file. Now he is in NO PROBLEM!!!

Gimme a second and I will have the step by step instructions posted here for you to pass on to anyone else who made have made this modification in January!

Click start - my Computer
Click folders to open the sidebar

Click your harddrive (C: perhaps)
Click Windows
Click System32
Click Drivers
Click Etc.

In this folder double click the file called "Hosts"
If it asks what to open it with, select Notepad

The bottom two lines will read:
72.232.202.122 inthe00s.com
72.232.202.122 www.inthe00s.com

Delete these two lines, then click file, click save.

Close the notepad
Close any open Browsers windows.
Open a new browser window and attempt to navigate back here.

It should work.
If it doesn't initially, then clean you cache etc. and try again.

Like I said, it should work because the Son couldn't get in and I removed the two lines - no problem since!
(NB. Not every single computer that made the changes in January will have to do this - only some may have to)
