Yes, he is. Probably not as much of one as Gorby but still a celeb.

Well as someone whose formative years came during his presidency I can say that he was a major figure on the world stage. History will probably remember him as being just a boozer whose country slide into economic ruin. However it was Yeltsin who stood up to the communists and ushered in the closest thing Russia has had to a free society. Unfortunatly from what I can see it seems those days are passed.
