Subject: John Stewart dies at 68

Written By: Bobo on 01/19/08 at 10:14 pm

John Stewart has died at the age of 68.

Stewart was previously a member of the Kingston Trio, whose song Tom Dooley was a winner of the Best Country Song Grammy award despite not reaching the chart. Stewart was also a writer, penning Daydream Believer, though he was originally displeased with the concept of the group changing the word "funky" to the word "happy" in the second verse. He finally accepted this alteration when he learned that the song was earning him millions in royalties!

He was a great musician and singer.  He had a great solo album in 1979 called 'Bombs Away Dream Babies' that launched a trio of hits.  I still iked his Kingston Trio work the best.  'Where Have All the Flowers Gone' and 'Tom Dooley' are such classics!

R.I.P. to a wonderful entertainer :\'(

NOOOOOOOO! I will listen to Daydream Believer a thousand times today, and if you haven't heard him sing it you haven't really heard the song.  I have his Lonesome Picker album and love it.  no, just no. :\'( :\'( :\'(

It sounds like many of you people must be really young if you've never heard of John Stewart of The Kingston Trio!  :o
