Abby Mann, the Oscar-winning writer of the 1961 film Judgment At Nuremberg, has died at the age of 80.

Gregg Mitchell, spokesman for the Writers Guild of America, said Mann passed away on Tuesday but did not give details of the cause of death.

Mann also won several Emmys, including one for a TV film called The Marcus-Nelson Murders which introduced a maverick detective called Theo Kojak.

The film gave birth to the long-running TV series Kojak.

Sorry for late post, but in the week of Abby's death, the BBC Radio 4 newsreader Charlotte Green burst into a fit of giggles whilst announcing the death. The producers of Today have had to apologise to Abby's family at that difficult time.

The Judgment At Nuremberg is a classic.  RIP Abby.
