As well as being a great folk singer, Phillips was also a genuine left-wing industrial-era activist.  His kind is dying out fast.

I must thank Ani DiFranco for introducing Utah Phillips to a whole new generation.

M any years ago my kids and I saw him in concert at a very small venue.  The youngest asked him what the "U" stood for.  He said "I don't know"  my kid said "It must stand for "Union".  What a lose.
