Subject: Paul Newman on His Way

Written By: danootaandme on 08/08/08 at 4:39 pm

It has been reported that Paul Newman has only weeks to live.  He is truly a gentleman, a man who conducted himself in a way that should be an example to everyone.  My prayers are with him, Joanne, and the rest of the family.

Paul Newman is one of my all-time favorite actors: Cool Hand Luke, Hud, Hombre, Butch Cassidy, The Hustler, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Slap Shot, The Hudsucker Proxy...and so many others.

He is 83 years old, so he's had a good run....but it still sucks losing him!

It will be sad to see him go :\'(

One of the best movies I've ever seen him in (during his later career) was a great caper flick called 'Where the Money Is' that came out in 2000, I believe.  A simply wonderful film!

I really love Paul Newman, I am so sorry to see him so sick. He is such a legend. I lived for a long time in the town next to his in CT.  Wikipedia has his hometown listed wrong, he did not live in Westport,Ct he lived in Fairfield,Ct The place he lived in was not what you would expect from someone so very famous. It was very "normal".
My husband had the honor of meeting him about 10 years ago. His daughter had painted a mural at a local aquarium and my hubby was working security, and had the pleasure of escorting and chatting with him when he showed up for the dedication. Just a regular down to earth guy.
I also have a friend who used to deliver for UPS and said he was the nicest person, unpretentious, very much a salt of the earth type guy.
Of course his charity work and donations are world known.
Before Newmans own was such a huge brand it sold locally and benefited local charities. Of course now its  scope is so much more global, but he never failed to be a benefactor to local charities as well.
He could walk down the street and no one woulkd harasses him for autographs ect.
The closest I ever got was following behind him riding his motorcycle about 15 years ago.
BTW He hated being thought of as a sex symbol, he was more focused on his remarkable acting talent.
I think my favorite role of his was Harry and Son.
I will miss him terribly my thoughts are with Joanne and his daughters.

Slap shot was a great movie.. one of the funniest sports movies ever made. I can't even quote my fav line here, but it ends with "Shes' a dyke".

As a man of the 80's, I plead that we not forget The Color Of Money. Sure, Tom Cruise seemed to steal the spotlight among the younger viewers, but it was Paul that walked away with the Oscar!

I read that Disney & Pixar are working on a sequel to Cars for 2012. I pray that he makes it long enough to voice Doc Hudson again, but if not, I have envisioned a fitting tribute from them: Before the movie, we see Mack the tractor-trailer carrying the remains of Doc down Route 66, followed by the original cast, with Lightning McQueen or Mater leading them all in singing Boyz II Men's "End Of The Road", and it ends by showing a headstone engraved with "Dedicated in loving memory to Paul Newman, 1925-2008". Just a thought.

If anyone remembers his movie "Nobody's Fool." The scene toward the end of the movie where he walks up a small hill, and his friend is sitting on the front porch and he sits down next to him, I know the woman who used to own that front porch (she has since moved). That was the house where my high school sweetheart used to live. That reminds me, I owe her a letter.  :-[

It is a shame about Paul. My thoughts go out to him, his family, & his friends.

Oh no, not Paul.  He's such a great actor and social activist.  He was so proud that he was on Nixon's personal hit list.  All of his movies are wonderful.

My thoughts are with him and his family. :\'(

He did age in an elegant manner.  That's why I mentioned his age.  It's easy to forget how old he was!

I never leave the supermarket without at least one Newmans Own product.  I have a friend whose daughter had childhood leukemia who went to "The Hole in the Wall Camp", and it was a blessing.  Everything absolutely free and a great time.  Her daughter is doing fine now, by the way  :)

See the black and white original 'The Hustler' (1961) .... Mike, if you haven't seen it before.  Features Jackie Gleason as 'Minnesota Fats' . For me ... a superior movie to 'Color of Money' (where he reprised his 'Fast Eddy Felson' role  ... and one of his best ever.  George C. Scott also features.

My 'Virgin'  movie guide starts its review (re the Hustler) .... 'This dark stunner, based on Walter Tevis's novel, boasts Paul Newman in the role that made him an OVERNIGHT SUPERSTAR. '  ....

(Later .......... 'Scott is evil incarnate; and Newman is simply unforgettable' ..... 'Not to be missed'
