Subject: Motown songwriter Whitfield dies

Written By: Henk on 09/18/08 at 3:39 pm

Motown songwriter and producer Norman Whitfield, whose credits include hits "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" and "War", has died in Los Angeles.

Whitfield - believed to be 67 - worked at the legendary label in the '60s and '70s, adding a rock edge to soul music.
Many of his hits were co-written with Barrett Strong, with whom he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
The pair won a Grammy in 1972 for Papa Was A Rolling Stone by The Temptations.

Didn't know until you just told me, Henk... :-\\

Yes, another great loss... :( He and Barrett Strong lifted the Temptations from a sweet soul outfit into something much tougher...

Yet still found time to give us 'Just My Imagination'...

RIP Norman...thanks for all those marvellous songs and productions...

He gave us alot of wonderful songs.  R.I.P. to a great motown legend

He co-wrote the Temptations song 'Ball of Confusion' which I grew up listening to in the 80s version by Love and Rockets.  Still love that song

I love Motown music, and it's sad that another has gone on to Rock and Roll Heaven.
