Subject: Karl Malden dies at 97

Written By: Frank on 07/01/09 at 2:48 pm

Karl Malden, one of Hollywood's strongest and most versatile supporting actors, who won an Oscar playing his Broadway-originated role as Mitch in "A Streetcar Named Desire," died today. He was 97.

Malden starred in the 1970s TV series "The Streets of San Francisco" and was the longtime American Express traveler's-check spokesman, warning travelers to not leave home without it. He died of natural causes at his home in Brentwood, said his daughter Mila Doerner.

Oh man, not another one. But, he was 97 years old. That is quite a long life.

RIP Karl. You will be missed.

This blows.  My Dad used to work with a guy from the mill who knew ol' Karl and went on vacations with him.

RIP Karl.  :\'(

"What would you do?  What would .. you .. do?".  With Karl gone, a piece of Hollywood went with him.  I liked Streets of San Francisco and am very sad of his passing :\'(

Sad news....Saw him last week when watching the movie Pollyanna with my kids. He was the fire and brimstone preacher...

Hmmmm......with all these recent deaths maybe we should take a leaf out of Pollanna's book ...and play the "Glad Game"!

I only hope when Karl arrives in Heaven, he doesn't have to ask St. Peter, "Hello, do you know me?"

Farewell, Karl. We'll miss you.

Doc

He made a movie here ("Billy Galvin"), and showed up at the cast party at the local bar that was used.  I wasn't there, but every one said he was a great guy.  Oh yeah, and thought it interesting that he was in "Malden, Massachusetts"

He'd better hope that Saint Peter does not utter that dreaded refrain "...and we don't accept American Express!"  ;D

Gonna kick it old-school here, on account of alt.fan.karl-malden.nose has finally seen its first non-spam traffic in... well, a long time.

RIP, Karl.  Hell, you outlived USENET, that's gotta count for something.

I just watched Karl Malden in "Streetcar Named Desire," as "Mitch."
