In shocking turn of events, a killer whale traine, died in front of everyone, at Sea World.

There are people out there, calling for the whale's release, or death.

Same with Steve Erwin.

No room for mistakes in that profession.

You know, the night before Dawn Brancheau died, I was watching the Discovery Channel or something (Maybe it was a Sea World ad), where they showed the Shamu act where the trainers are in the water with the whales.

I wondered to myself "what happens if the whale decides to grab a trainer in its mouth".  ???

Sadly I found out the next day.  :\'(

Of course, the word "Killer Whale" is a misnomer.  They're not predatory to humans.  The trouble is when you've got a fin-to-face misunderstanding between a whale and a human, the human is going to get the worse of it.

I'm not a big PETA guy or anything, but it never seems quite right to keep those animals penned in tiny lagoons to do tricks for us.

I couldn't agree more!

But who keeps a "KILLER" Whale in a small place anyway?  ::)

Sea World.

What I would like to know is how they transport  Shamu from location to location. Shamu regularly does shows at all of the Sea World venues; that's gotta cost alot of dough to move him around like that all the time.  :-\\

People do seem to forget, the word "killer" in the word killer whale.

I am fairly positive of this: all the SeaWorld locations refer to their orca ("killer") whales as "Shamu," but there really has only been one Shamu in history who passed away quite a few decades ago. Each location has multiple orca whales. Since people can't tell the whales apart, they think, "Oh, hey, Shamu!" when really it's another unique whale, with its own unique name, that performs under the "stage name" of Shamu. SeaWorld does not transport these whales around the country!

Yeah, that's how I feel about wildlife.  It belongs wherever it evolved to live.  That's why I've never been a fan of zoos.

Dogs and cats are different of course.  I know PETA thinks we shouldn't have them, but dogs are not wildlife, they are domesticated animals.  They want to live with us.  Same with cats.  Occasionally, you get a genius who decides he's gonna keep a wolf for a dog or a tiger for a cat, and sooner or later the guy hauled the trauma center bleeding from where his arm used to be!

You got it.  Do you see chimpanzees naturally inclined to living in suburban subdivisions?  Nope.
