Subject: RIP - Eugene Polley - the last switch-off...

Written By: Paul on 05/23/12 at 6:16 am

I know what you're thinking...

'Who the hell is Eugene Polley?'  ???

Well, I was asking myself the same thing and then found out he created the phenomenon called 'the couch potato'...

I suppose, sooner or later, one's batteries are no longer rechargeable.
They say his original design was shaped like a gun which shot a beam of light at the TV sensor, maybe similar to what we still see in video games today? But it was the 50's, so at the time Western TV shows were huge. Curious as to how long that model was in production, could be that it was what inspired Elvis to shoot so many hotel room TV's!

Doc

Yeah, now remotes have like 100 buttons, and you can't figure out what half of them are for!

Which leads us nicely to the first law in remotes...

Put two in one room at any given time and they'll breed!

I'll confirm that.  Heck I even have remotes for t.v. that I no longer own.  :-\\  Apparently I collect remotes now.

Yeah, we bought this remote for my Mum who had alzheimer's.

The buttheads at Sony and Comcast made their remote controls so complicated that they are extremely confusing for elderly people or people with cognitive issues.

So I found the Flipper Remote and it worked great for my Mum.  :)

My air conditioner even has a remote.  ;D  My cat freaks out because it beeps everytime you press a button.  She stands there and stares at it!  I wonder what she's thinking.  ;D
