Subject: Chuck Noll gets to the End Zone

Written By: LyricBoy on 06/14/14 at 4:40 am

Legendary coach of the '70s Picksburgh Stillers football dynasty, Chuck Noll, passed away in Sewickley PA last night. Chuck became the first and remains the only coach to win four Super Bowl championships, a distinction he's held now for the past 35 years. Prior to Noll's arrival in the Burgh in 1969, the Stillers had been the doormat of the NFL for forty years.  Franchise owner Art Rooney first offered the head coaching job to Penn State coach Joe Paterno, but Joe turned down the job, opening the door for Chuck Noll.

Despite his status as Picksburgh royalty, Chuck was reclusive, and after his football days were over, pretty much refused to do interviews and such. Even at the height of his celebrity he refused to do an interview with Howard Cosell, who Noll considered to not be a serious sports journalist. Such was the status of Mr. Noll.  8)
