Meshach Taylor, who played the affable ex-con on Designing Women from 1986 to 1993 passed away Saturday at his home, reportedly of cancer.

Mr. Taylor is the third main character to pass away after the show's run ended.  The other two were Dixie Carter and Alice Ghostley.

Meshach was a great addition to the show. he was only supposed to be in the one ep (the Thanksgiving ep) but they loved him so much they added him as a series regular!

RIP Meshach! I loved the way you worked... also... nice to see you turn up this past season in an ep of Criminal Minds!

Too bad. :\'( :\'(

I remember him as a panelist on the early-2000s revival of "To Tell The Truth".

AW, CRAP! >:(
This dude was the only reason for a guy to EVER tune into Designing Women, and he was usually funnier than all four women put together. What's worse, we don't even have Dixie Carter anymore to sing at his funeral. I was so glad when they didn't write him off after Suzanne accidentally shot him! ::) His monologues were usually hilarious, especially when someone asked if he was related to Jackie Bouvier Kennedy, and he gave a long explanation as to how she was his sister, ending with, "She'll be pleased to know that... Common People still care!"
Classy comedy from a classy guy.

Your Pal,
Doc

He wasn't gay on Designing Women... he was very straight on the show.... they even gave him a few love interests (all female) on the show.

He was straight on DW.

It was a different story when he played Hollywood Montrose, though.  ;D

Is it terrible I thought that was Whoopi Goldberg at first?  :o Gosh I hate he's gone. He's made Designing Women endurable for me.

He didn't act gay on designing women. I mean maybe in a scene here or there but 99.9 % of the time he played Anthony as a straight guy.

He was married to actress Bianca Fergueson. She played Claudia on General Hospital.  I don't know if they had kids.
