Subject: Phil Hughes: Australian batsman dies, aged 25

Written By: Philip Eno on 11/27/14 at 12:11 am

Australia Test batsman Phil Hughes has died, two days after being hit on the head by a ball. Australia team doctor Peter Brukner said he never regained consciousness and died in hospital in Sydney. Hughes, 25, was carried off on a stretcher at the Sydney Cricket Ground after a short-pitched delivery struck his head, missing his helmet. He had CPR and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation before being taken to hospital and placed in an induced coma. In a statement, Peter Brukner said: "It is my sad duty to inform you that a short time ago Phillip Hughes passed away. He never regained consciousness following his injury on Tuesday. "He was not in pain before he passed and was surrounded by his family and close friends. "As a cricket community we mourn his loss and extend our deepest sympathies to Phillip's family and friends at this incredibly sad time. "Cricket Australia kindly asks that the privacy of the Hughes family, players and staff be respected."

This is an incredibly sad moment. It is all the talk around the place in Australia.  My thoughts go out to Phil's family, friends and cricket community.

The 1st test starts here next week and I wonder how this will affect the Aussie bowlers...

Sean Abbott felt "confused and upset" after he bowled the ball that fatally injured Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes, an inquest has been told. Hughes died aged 25 from a haemorrhage in the brain, two days after being hit on the neck during a domestic match in Sydney on 25 November, 2014. The five-day hearing is examining if his death was avoidable. In a statement, Abbott said "it was all a bit of a blur" and that he felt "in a bit of a daze" after the incident.

Nobody was to blame for the death of Australian opener Phillip Hughes in 2014, says the coroner who led the inquest into his death. Hughes died from a brain haemorrhage, two days after being hit on the neck while playing for South Australia in a first-class match in Sydney.
