Subject: Runaways manager Kim Fowley dies at 75

Written By: ChrisBodilyTM on 01/16/15 at 11:16 pm

Before Joan Jett had a bad reputation. Before Lita Ford "went to a party last Saturday night." Joan, Lita, Cherie Currie, Jackie Fox, and Sandy West cherry bombed the rock music scene as The Runaways. Their manager was the eccentric Kim Fowley.

Other credits include Alice Cooper, Kiss, "Alley Oop," the recently-deceased Paul Revere (and the Raiders), Blue Cheer, and Helen Reddy.

Fowley closed out the Sixties by MCing John Lennon's performance at the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival, where he asked the audience to hold up its cigarette lighters, arguably starting the concert fad.

In 2014, Fowley made an appearance in Beyoncé's "Haunted" video.

The biopic movie, The Runaways, was released in 2010. It starred Dakota Fanning as Currie, Kristen Stewart as Jett, Scout-Taylor Compton as Ford, and Michael Shannon as Fowley. "Cherry Bomb" recently appeared in the movie Guardians of the Galaxy and on its soundtrack.

She also influenced John Cougar Mellencamp, who had a pretty good hit with his version of "Cherry Bomb".  8)
