Subject: Chris Amon: Former Ferrari driver dies from cancer at the age of 73

Written By: Philip Eno on 08/11/16 at 3:07 am

Former Ferrari driver Chris Amon has died at the age of 73. Amon had been suffering from cancer in recent years and died in hospital in his native New Zealand on Wednesday, his family confirmed. He competed in Formula One from 1963 to 1976 and although he was considered one of the best drivers of the era, he never won a Grand Prix. Amon did, however, win the Le Mans 24 hour race in 1966 alongside fellow New Zealander Bruce McLaren.

I was a big fan of Chris Amon, not only being a kiwi, but the legacy he left, not only to survive In an era when 1 in every 10 racer would succumb to death or an injury to stop them from racing, but also more to the point that he is touted as the greatest F1 driver never to win a GP.

RIP Chris Amon.............
