Subject: Gregg Allman Dead

Written By: LyricBoy on 05/27/17 at 4:23 pm

Legendary southern rocker Gregg Allman, probably best known as the founder of the Allman Brothers Band with his brother Duane Allman, has passed away at the age of 69.

No cause of death has been released yet. Family said that he had been "in ill health" lately.

He did battle a long disease. I remember seeing him on recent photos, and he didn't look so hot. Sad, really. :\'(

Back in college, a buddy of mine and I had a game called "Guess Who Died?"  If a celebrity passed away, we'd call each other and ask "guess who died?".  If the callee did not know, then the caller "won".

My biggest score was when I called him about the untimely demise of Pope JP I. I called Mark up and said "Guess who died?"  He said "I don't know, who was it?", to which I replied "The Pope". Mark said "Hey that doesn't count! He died a few weeks ago."  I then told him to turn on the TV.  He then conceded and said, "OK LyricBoy, you win."  ;D

In my opinion the Allman Brothers Band was the greatest American rock band of all time, and the passing of Gregg Allman indeed marks the end of an era. I've been a huge fan of them ever since I was in my early 20's and although he's been in poor health for quite some time, I'm still quite saddened by his death.

Although his life was marred by many tragedies and controversies, I still believe that Gregg Allman was the most soulful white vocalist ever, not to mention that he could play a Hammond B3 organ like a boss.

I still find it astonishing that these guys were all under 25 when they made this performance:

R.I.P. Gregory. Thanks for all the great music over the years, and I hope you gave your brother a great big hug.  :\'( :\'( :\'(
