Sir Bruce Forsyth, the veteran British entertainer and presenter of many successful TV shows, has died aged 89. The former Strictly Come Dancing presenter had been unwell for some time and was in hospital earlier this year after a severe chest infection. His long career in show business began when he was aged just 14. He became Britain's best-paid TV star, famous for hosting game shows like The Generation Game, Play Your Cards Right and The Price is Right.

I don't remember him doing TPIR. Was he before Bob Barker? ???

Bruce Forsyth was UK based.

He died from pneumonia.

The BBC is considering a permanent memorial to Sir Bruce Forsyth, who died on Friday at the age of 89.Amid the tributes to the entertainer, some fans have called for a statue of the entertainer to be erected outside a BBC building. A spokesperson for the BBC said it would look into the idea of a memorial to mark his 75-year career. "We are more than happy to look at what would be the most fitting tribute to a BBC showbiz legend."

Family and friends have said farewell to Sir Bruce Forsyth at a private funeral for the veteran entertainer. The star's manager confirmed to BBC News that the service took place on Monday, but declined to give any more details. A public memorial service is expected to be held in due course for fans to pay their respects. There will also be a tribute on Strictly Come Dancing when it returns to BBC One on Saturday.
