Subject: Hugh Hefner dead at 91

Today, he was found dead at his home at the age of 91.

Playboy Enterprises Inc said he passed away peacefully at home, from natural causes. Mr Hefner began publishing Playboy in his kitchen at home in 1953. It became the largest-selling men's magazine in the world, shifting seven million copies a month at its peak. Cooper Hefner, his son, said he would be "greatly missed by many".

My step-step brother (my step-father's step-son), was learning impaired. (The non-politically correct term begins with an "r".) He had the mind of child in a man's body. One day, my step-father found Playboy magazines in his room. His comment: "They have good articles." The problem with this argument was the fact that he couldn't read.

I went to the Playboy Club in NJ (when it was open)-believe it or not, with my parents when I was a teenager. I remember getting a souvenir tank top that said, "Numero Uno Playmate." I think I got rid of it a long time ago when I couldn't fit in it anymore.

Carlos ended his subscription because they change their format and now (according to him) it kind of sucks. But, I still like looking for the bunny on the cover.

R.I.P. Hugh. You made A LOT of men very happy.

Despite the old joke about "I buy Playboy for the articles", Playboy had some of the best interviews ever with notable people. They were in depth and went on for 20, 30, 40 pages. Such comprehensiveness would never be seen now. Bob Dylan's 1978 interview with them was maybe the best single interview he ever did. It was in that interview that he used the phrase "that thin, wild mercury sound" to describe the sound of his music on the classic triumvirate of "Bringing It All back Home", "Highway 61 Revisited" and "Blonde On Blonde".  That phrase has since been repeated ad infinitum in article after article about Dylan, by lazy writers who saw it in another article over the years but don't know of it's origin in this interview.  Such laziness passes for journalism these days. John Lennon and Yoko Ono's 1980 interview in Playboy was so comprehensive it was later released as a book.  Playboy also featured interviews over the years with such luminaries as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Albert Schweitzer. It's not something people think of first when they think of "Playboy" but the interviews were top notch. And Hugh Hefner was one sophisticated guy. He had a vision of a well integrated world of the sensual, the literate, the intellectual, the urbane, the witty. Extreme rigid political correctness and identity politics killed all this.

I just realized, there is only one member of The Big Four left.

Bob Guccioni (Penthouse), Al Goldstein (Screw Magazine) and Hugh Hefner (Playboy) are now gone.

Larry Flynt (Hustler Mag) is the last man standing.

In life, Playboy founder Hugh Hefner cavorted with a harem of young women in the infamous Playboy Mansion - a byword for hedonism and sexual excess. In death, he will lie next to just one: the iconic Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe.

We also can count Dian Hanson, publisher of Juggs Magazine, amongst the living.

She should partner up with Cooper to form a team.

About 20 years ago I was working on a big construction project and I had asked our engineering department to get me an estimate on constructing a new warehouse.

The lead engineer for that task was a gentleman who a few years before, became a paraplegic after falling off of his roof.

Anyway, one day he called me and tells me what the estimate was for the new building. It was outrageously high and I said "Holy @&$#% Mike, I don't want to build a Taj Mahal!"

Mike replied "Yeah, I know what you mean.  I was shocked myself when I got the quote. It's a good thing I was sitting down."  ;D

It was good that he had a sense of humor. I once had a dear friend who was a quad so I do understand the difficulties.

Her was doing the deed all the way to the end. He was a big proponent of (and user of) Viagra. Reportedly he used so much of the stuff that he lost hearing in one ear, which is a known possible side effect of the drug.  :o
