Studio Ghibli co-founder, Oscar-nominated Isao Takahata has died after "a recent bout of ill health."
His credits include:

The Tale of the Princess Kaguya
The Valley of the Wind
Heidi, Girl of the Alps
Lupin the Third
Takahata began his career in 1959 at Toei (best known nowadays for the long-running Super Sentai series that begot the US counterpart, Power Rangers), where he met longtime collaborator and rival Hayo Miyazaki.
