Subject: Don Newcombe, Dodgers great in Brooklyn, dies at age 92

Written By: nally on 02/19/19 at 11:44 pm

Don Newcombe, the first Major League Baseball star to win Rookie of the Year, Cy Young, and MVP awards in one career, has passed away today. He was 92 years old. :\'(

He was best known for his years with the Dodgers franchise, starting in 1949 in Brooklyn and carrying into 1958, when the team moved west to Los Angeles. His Cy Young and MVP awards both came in 1956, a year after he led the franchise to its only title in Brooklyn. He was absent from professional baseball in 1952 and 1953 due to military service in the Korean War.
