Breaking news.

Total shock. Didn't see this one coming. The Cars are now officially silenced, as Ben Orr died in 2000.

RIP

Wow, two rock icons gone in one weekend, both in their 70s. :\'( First Eddie Money, now the Cars frontman.

I had thought that he, too, was 70; but it turns out he was actually five years older...

Still, RIP to another classic rocker :\'(

Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, and David Robinson are still with us. Maybe they can launch a reunion/tribute tour.

I was referring to lead singers, but yes. Maybe Todd Rundgren would agree to reprise The New Cars.

I've always thought the Heartbreaks could do something similar. The Heartbreakers and Friends. Get people like Dave Grohl, Jeff Lynne, and Steve Nicks to sing Tom's songs as a special tribute. Linkin Park as well. Go the Queen/Grateful Dead route with it.

Upsetting to hear. I had been starting to get into The Cars over the past two months and just this morning, I listened to "Just What I Needed" and "You Might Think" through YouTube. RIP Ric. :(

That just might be possible.

Sad to hear of his passing, I have always found "Drive" haunting.

Just as I suspected.

Emphysema, too. Wow.  :\'(

I admit to not knowing which songs Ric sang and which ones Ben sang. Their voices were so similar. I had thought Ric sang all of them, except "Drive." Turns out, some of the ones I thought Ric sang were actually Ben --

"Just What I Needed"
"Bye Bye Love"
"Moving in Stereo"
"Let's Go"

Ric did, however, sing:

"Shake It Up"
"My Best Friend's Girl"
"You're All I've Got Tonight"
"You Might Think"
"Hello Again"

Maybe they could borrow Adam Lambert from Queen.

I had no idea of that, either. :o

Yeah; I, too, mistook Ben's voice for Ric's on several of their recordings. Ric also sang lead on "Tonight She Comes" (1985), "Since You're Gone" (1981), and "Good Times Roll" (1979). So he was the lead vocalist on most of the band's hits.

Now both guys are together in heaven.

Sadly, it was not natural causes that caused his death.

It is known that even if you are non-smoker, second hand cigarette can still affect one,

That is true; just three years ago, a friend of my mother's passed away from lung cancer, yet this woman never smoked a day in her life.

Ground emissions of radon gas into building basements are a big contributor to lung cancers.

Don't even joke about something like that.  I have a hard enough time expressing how I feel about him fronting Queen.

Second-hand-smoke from somebody who does smoke can contribute to lung cancers, which is the main reason why I never let my mother come into my room while she was smoking, and asbestos exposure can cause mesothelioma, another form of lung cancer.
