She was immortalized in the Pink Floyd song Vera, from their album The Wall, in 1979.

Paying tribute, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said her "charm and magical voice entranced and uplifted our country in some of our darkest hours".

Living legend, the forces sweetheart. She still regularly appeared at public concerts in the U.K. for things like the jubilee or the queen’s birthday.

She had an album in the charts this year as a result of the VE Day 70th anniversary celebrations.

When I read about her this morning, I actually thought that she died a long time ago.  :-[

Of course all morning, I have the Pink Floyd song in my head.

Here’s the appearance of Vera’s signature tune, We’ll Meet Again, in the climactic scene of Doctor Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.

So cool that Vera was a nexus between Pink Floyd and Slim Pickens.  8)
