Subject: Sumner Redstone dies at 97

Written By: ChrisBodilyTM on 08/12/20 at 8:37 am

A bit of a mixed legacy. Nickelodeon deprived a generation of its classic shows, and Viacom became extremely militant and litigious when YouTube became popular. MTV (and eventually VH1) declined, as well. And apparently, Redstone himself had his own scandals.

But he did help to build Viacom, CBS, MTV and Nickelodeon into the empires they are today. In 1993, Viacom bought Paramount, and Blockbuster a year later.

In 2005, Viacom and CBS split. They reunified as ViacomCBS in 2019.
