He defined multiple generations of scholars and his charismatic and snappy personality made him universally liked. He will not be missed any time soon.

And honestly, it's REALLY hard to see someone other than Alex to replace him as  the host.

Alex filmed his last Jeopardy! episode on October 29th.

His final episode (Final Jeopardy?) airs December 25th. ABC aired a 20/20 special tonight on short notice.

So many Alex Trebek/Jeopardy! memories. Not only can I learn a thing or two, but it's also comfort TV. The video games were mainstays on my Sega Genesis. I'm definitely not smart enough for Jeopardy, but it's fun nonetheless.

I have a few host ideas, but I'm not sure whether it's too soon.

Linda Ellerbee, legendary journalist and Nick News host, retired.
Meredith Vieira, former host of the syndicated Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? I feel she'd give off a similar vibe. (Maybe without the mustache or the Canadianness.) She'd probably best the best fit of any of my candidates.
David Letterman
Ken Jennings

RIP  :\'(

How about Bob Eubanks? ???

Or maybe even Bob Barker.

No one will ever fill that void, let it be.

He made it a lot longer than anyone else I knew of with pancreatic cancer. Last year sometimes you could tell he was weak and the show was taped over several days but he said he would host it until the very end. Lately I thought he was looking a lot better. That last episode will probably be one of the most watched shows in history, like the final episode of mash.

I’ve been watching him since I was 8 and I was recovering from my first surgery in 1985. He’s been an icon of most of my life.

I think along with the price is right, they will find another host and the show will go on. He probably had preferences for his replacement. Although the show will never be quite the same.

Same goes for wheel of fortune when that time comes.

RIP Alex Trebeck.

This is just awful.  :\'( But with the way this year has gone.... not surprised anymore.

The good news is, the man stayed on Jeopardy the whole time (never retired from the show) and looked very well the whole time on Jeopardy right before he died. He just got to 80 years old. I didn't realize he had pancreatic cancer which was unfortunate.

My dad ALWAYS had Jeopardy on when I was growing up. When you saw Trebeck's face on the show or any commercial ad, you knew immediately "Hey it's the Jeopardy guy!" It was always fun trying to figure out all the trivia & everything, and I learned a lot from the show itself too.

This was long before I came into existence but I'll leave this here.

He had cancer for a very long time, and we are thankful for the time we still had him. RIP, Alex.

Yeah, I read something on that yesterday.

ABC aired a 20/20 special tonight on short notice.

I watched that last night as well. Very informative. They even replayed part of his special from earlier this year.

Would any of them be able to give the type of diction that Alex did? They could practice it, I suppose.

They could always go with a CGI game host.

I don't think that would work on a live-action programme. ::) Unless someone else knows something I don't.

It's best to just leave it alone and just show repeats.

I have two words for you. Artificial Intelligence.

With AI technology, a live action CGI game show host could be done.  8)

What I'm saying is, if you're actually in the studio (as an audience member or a contestant), you'd need to see an emcee. And the contestants would have to interact with the emcee.

The CGI emcee would, of course, be presented to the contestants as a 3-D hologram projected in front of them.  8)

A guy from my high school class has 4 Oscar awards for CGI effects. This would be a piece of cake for a guy with his experience.

RIP Alex....you are a Shining Star.

I've heard names thrown around, as the Show Must Go On....Anderson Cooper, and I think he would  do a good job and I heard Ken  Jennings.....a big winner from the show.

We will  hear the decision one of these days.

BTW: On the cancer world, the main reason I started on Grape Seed Extract in  1995, we would told "may prevent cancers"..... so that's why I got on board.

His final "Jeopardy" episode will air on Christmas Day, btw.

There has been a change of plans... his final week of recorded episodes will air the week of January 4th through 8th, 2021, instead of next week.

They were apparently pushed back "due to anticipated preemptions around Christmas and New Year's," according to a statement from the show. Instead, the weeks of Dec. 21 and Dec. 28 will feature ten of Trebek's best episodes as a special tribute.
