Legendary New York City mayor David Dinkins has passed away at the age of 93. :\'(

A one-time mayor, he lost his bid for a second term to Rudy Giuliani. His loss in that election was attributed partially to a mocked suggestion that everybody in The Big Apple should wear name tags, to create a more friendly environment. That, as well as a robust Giuliani who had recently lost weight due to a low fat diet, resulted in Dinkins being a one-term Mayor.
Dinkins was credited with significant crime rate reductions in the town, a trend that Giuliani built upon. 8)
