Sad to hear this, a true pioneer of his time.
In truth, he was not the first man to break the speed of sound for the crack a whip makes is produced when a section of the whip moves faster than the speed of sound creating a small sonic boom.

Still, making it to age 97 is remarkable, especially for him.
