He was a great manager all around for the Dodgers, and a great guy too.

In fact, he was a part of the Dodgers organization for the majority of his professional career - either as a player, scout, coach, manager, or front office guy.

All day yesterday, the local channel SportsNetLA was airing a special on Tommy's life.

He never won any games as a player (he was briefly a pitcher at the big league level) but he won 1,599 games as a manager, the position he was destined for.

His uniform number, 2, was retired by the Dodgers franchise in 1997, the same year he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall Of Fame.
