Legendary WW2 veteran, United States Senator from Kansas, and 1996 Presidential candidate Bob Dole has passed away at the age of 98, from lung cancer.  :\'(

After he finished serving as an elected representative, Mr. Dole continued to keep working, including a gig as a spokesman for Viagra.  8)

Wow, he lived 98 years!

I remember him as the Republican presidential nominee a quarter-century ago, as well as a longtime U.S. Senator in his native Kansas. (Also, in 1976, 20 years before he ran for President, he was Gerald Ford's running mate.) But I didn't know about his association with Viagara.

Anyways...R.I.P. Bob. :\'(

"Bob Dole doesn't need this! Vote for Bob Dole, and Bob Dole will make sure to run a tight ship. Bob Dole!"

Bob Dole was a meme before there even were memes. He was the original Bernie. "Does he realize he's Bob Dole?" Loni Love pondered in the 1996 episode of VH1's I Love the 90s.

1996 was the earliest election I was ever aware of. I remember Bob Dole being a meme, and Ross Perot less so (outside of Katrina Johnson on All That). I remember Norm Macdonald's impression, one time even with the real Dole. "Bob Dole doesn't talk like that!" (Also, Dan Aykroyd played Dole on SNL back in the day.)

I forgot about Viagra, but who could forget his cameo in the Britney Spears Pepsi commercial?

Dole definitely ruined himself by supporting a certain politician. But 98 is a respectable age.

He was an endangered species, a member of the GOP with honor & decency. They are getting fewer and fewer.
