Legendary R&B songbird Wanda Young, who sang lead for the 60s group The Marvelettes, has passed away at the age of 76.  :\'(

Back in the day, The Marvelettes were huge. Wanda sang lead on all their classic tunes, including Please Mister Postman and the sultry Don’t Mess with Bill.  8)

Sad to hear this, as I'm fond of the Marvelettes    :\'(  :\'(  :\'(

(Incidentally, the primary lead of the group was the late Gladys Horton - Wanda Young was "second lead".  No matter - they were one of Motown's first superstar acts.)

R.I.P. Wanda Young

From Wanda’s Wikipedia page..

The first hit single to feature her on lead was the dance hit, "I'll Keep Holding On" (1965) From then on until the Marvelettes' departure, Young would be the main lead vocalist of the group. She went on to sing lead on several classics such as "Don't Mess with Bill" (a million-selling gold 45), "The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game", "When You're Young and in Love" and "My Baby Must Be a Magician".

I did not realize until I checked out her Wiki page that the group originally was called The Marvels. The Motown execs convinced them to rebrand as The Marvelettes, and the rest is history.  8)
