Child actor and voice-over actor Peter Robbins (birth name, Louis Nanasi) has had the football pulled out from under his foot for the last time. He has passed away at the age of 65.  :\'(

Robbins was the first kid to voice-over Charlie Brown in the various Peanuts cartoons, but he also had bit roles over the years in Blondie, My Three Sons, F-Troop, Good Times, The Munsters, and Get Smart, just to name a few.  8)

But the curse that befalls many a child actor caught up to him, as he spent time in and out of jail for various infrctions, usually linked to drug usage. Including a 5-year stint in the slam for threatening some public figures.  :-\\

There were three extremely innovative things about the 1965 Charlie Brown Christmas special that scared the original sponsor (Coca-Cola) to death. #3 really scared them to death. But it ended up being a big hit and Coca-Cola was all smiles.

1) It was the first time actual children were used to voice the characters of children. Previously, cartoons had always used adult voice actors to portray children.

2) It was the first to use a jazz score. Written by jazz pianist Vince Guarldi. It became indelible. Just think when you hear that "certain piano music" you immediately think "Charlie Brown".

3) It quoted directly from the Bible. Luke 2:8-14. Linus Van Pelt (voiced by 8 year old Christopher Shea) looks directly into the camera and intones:

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, “Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”

And THAT'S what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.  :)
