Subject: ARS Takes Another Hit… Barry Bailey Gone at 73

Written By: LyricBoy on 03/14/22 at 5:35 am

Barry Bailey, founding guitarist of the legendary Southern Rock band Atlanta Rhythm Section, has passed away at the age of 73 from multiple sclerosis.  :\'(

ARS was founded by Bailey and others in 1970 after a stint as a studio backing group in Doraville GA.  Some of the founding members were veterans of the 60s band, Classics IV. They went in to own the 1970s southern rock scene with their smooooooooth recordings of classics like Champagne Jam, Do It or Die, So Into You, Spooky (a Classics IV remake), and the controversial Imaginary Lover.  8)

Sadly ARS band members did not fare well after the heyday years. To date six members have departed us, including singer Ronnie Hammond (2011), R.J. Vealey (1999), Robert Nix (2012), Paul Goddard (2014), J.R. Cobb (2019), and producer/songwriter Buddy Buie (2015). Founding vocalist Rodney Justo is the only founding member still on our side of the grass.  :-\\
