Subject: Jerry Lee Lewis dies aged 87

Written By: Philip Eno on 10/28/22 at 12:51 pm

Jerry Lee Lewis, the notorious singer behind Great Balls of Fire, has died aged 87, his agent has confirmed.

One of the last survivors of rock 'n' roll's golden age, his life was also marred by scandal and violence.

His career was briefly halted when, aged 22, he married his 13-year-old cousin Myra Gale Brown.

Lewis's agent described him as "perhaps the last true, great icon of the birth of rock'n'roll".

…and then there was one…

Jerry Lee Lewis, Mickey Gilly, and Rev. Jimmy Swaggart were all cousins.  8)

Now only Jimmy Swaggart is on our side of the grass.  :-\\

Once you think an older celebrity will live at least until eternity, he or she dies off. We've lost a lot of great people after the pandemic. RIP: Jerry Lee

Million Dollar Quartet is a Broadway (off-Broadway?) musical depicting a special night at Sun records (actual event) in which Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis were together and held an impromptu "jam session" (among the other notable events of the day).  Highly recommended!  The actor playing the young Jerry Lee Lewis was inspired:

(This isn't the cast I saw, but my cast equally amazing)

As a matter of fact, I spotted an MDQ show video clip in which the real Jerry Lee Lewis performed "Whole Lotta Shakin'" with the show cast in 2010 to a highly appreciative audience.  8)

I was never a big fan but I recognize his place in rock-n-roll history and I will always sing along to Great Balls of Fire.

I believe I saw that film many years ago.  I didn't put it on my favorites list; had mixed feelings but don't recall why.

I saw that movie.  Alec Baldwin plays Jery Lee's cousin Jimmy Swaggart.  It wasn't a super amazing film, but I enjoyed it
