Subject: Foods You Don't Like

Written By: GoodRedShirt on 06/12/05 at 1:39 am

What is some food you just cannot eat and makes you want to vomit or feel ill when you have to eat the stuff.

For me:
- Mountain Oysters
- Lamb's Fry
- Wheat Bix (A popular cereal over here)

and more I can't think of...

Good topic, GRS! ;)

Now, some of my picks:

* certain salad dressings
* chicken that isn't boneless
* MAYONNAISE :P >puke<

I'll probably think of a few more later.

Other stuff for starters:

-Tomatoes
-Mustard
-Pickles

I'll think of more later (these are basically all "condiments" LOL).

Bubble and squeak...(shudder)

...which, for those who don't know, is a vile concoction of mashed spud and cabbage (normally the dark green type) - traditionally the left-over bits of a Sunday lunch, it's then re-hashed in time for Monday...

Some people even eat the stuff cold...(shudders again)

My bro-in-law's family have this odd (and disgusting) habit of drinking cabbage water (the residue of what you boil the stuff in) - one of them even drinks that cold...!!

I wonder what my sister married into at times...

potatos so I quess I wouldn't mind throwing some cabbage in.  I guess they call it Bubble and Squeak

Just to clarify here, sushi is a rice and seaweed roll (containing cucumber, avocado, and different seafoods that are generally cooked).  It is NOT raw fish like many people seem to think.  Raw fish is called sashimi.

Foods I cannot stand to eat not already mentioned:

Olives: Too salty and oily, plus they look like eyeballs.
Walnuts: They taste like crap and are a PITA to get out of the shell.
Tofu: It tastes like nothing and has a crappy texture
Rice Cakes: Same as above
Calamari ( Octupus/Squid ): Same as above
Any turkey burgers/dogs/processed meat: Tastes like crap
Bologna: Disgusting
Anchovies: Disgusting
Any pungent cheese: Disgusting
Fruit Cake: Disgusting. It should be a felony to give these out at holidays.
Pommegranites (sp?): Too many darned seeds and they stain everything red. Too much effort.
Most diet flavored sodas: Diet Vanilla Coke is beyond vile. I imagine it's like drinking watered down carbonated vanilla extract.
Fruit Loops: I saw some of these floating in wastewater ( raw sewage ) one day. I get ill every time I see a box of them. and finally:

Anything from McDonald's: I think I would rather starve to death than eat anything there again. Not to mention it was mandatory for me to have Pepto-Bismol nearby afterwords.

About the pineapple, it's the acid ( pH factor ) not enzymes that eat away at your tooth enamel. This is evident if you open a tin/galvanized can of pineapple and leave it exposed to air. It will discolor the can. I eat pineapple all the time but brush afterwords.

I have tested pH of Orange Juice, and it comes in at ~1.4 pH. I imagine pineapple is lower than that.

There aren't many foods I won't eat really.  Offal - no problem, fish - no problem (though I'm not keen on the bones I prefer filleted), most fruits (though not a whole lemon!)

I'm fussier about drinks.  I don't like Dr Pepper, and of the cokes other than regular or diet and I don't drink coffee.

Offal is defined as, viscera and trimmings of a butchered animal often considered inedible by humans. Steak or Kidneys are not certainly included in that, but you can never know what is within black pudding.

Not to get into a battle here !! but Collins defines offal as "the edible internal parts of an animal, such as the heart, liver and tongue"  So I would include kidneys into that definition.

that's too bad :-[ :-\\

I, for one, like fruits and veggies, and have been eating them since I was a little baby. I like to eat the nutritious stuff.

There are some foods I didn't want to eat when I was younger, but have grown to like them as time went on. For example, I was reluctant to eat any kind of nut until I was 11; within two years after that I couldn't eat any nuts because I had braces (and my orthodontist was strict about what I could/couldn't eat), so I didn't eat any more until I was about 16 or so. Also, for some mysterious reason, I didn't want to eat anything Mexican until I was about 10. Now I love Mexican food! :)
