Subject: Is Ice Cream an '80s Food?

Written By: Donnie Darko on 06/23/06 at 2:00 pm

The Smoothie is '90s food. Is ice cream '80s?  It's rich, excessive, colorful, and indulgent.

Actually, in the 80's all kinds of "gormet" ice creams started showing up.  Ice Cream has always been popular and there have been the favorite ice cream stands that people have always frequented, but in the 80's there was a yuppification of the ice cream stand bringing them from the country to the city.  Instead of Brighams, Friendlys, and Baileys, we got places like Steves and Emack and Bolio offering new concoctions, and different "add ins", and the price of plain old ice cream rose accordingly.

It is said that Marco Polo saw ice cream being made on his trip to China and took the recipe home to Italy in the 15 century.

Ice cream is known to have originated in Persia before anywhere else.  Thats modern-day Iran.

I'm referring to what is known has modern day ice cream, not precursors that served a relatable sweet temptation.

I'm pretty sure that ice cream originated in Persia. ???

Ice cream on a cold day is wonderful, especially on a warm up apple pie.

Erm, Donnie...

Next, you're going to be saying "Is Cheese an '80s Food?" I like decadeology, but alot of what we've been doing has gotten awfully redundant lately.

Why don't you start an 80s themed icecreamery, Donnie? The teenagers who usually scoop the ice-cream could be replaced by replicas of Marvin the Robot, and he could service flavours like 'Nutty New Wave' or 'Cyndi Lauper Cherry'. LOL

I think Ice cream got a makeover during the '80s, like Danoota mentioned, but Ice Cream appears to have been popular from the day it began. It's the greatest treat!

I think cookies n creme flavor was introducd in the 80s...

but as an official snack food?  nah  Maybe nachos were more of an 80s iconic food (unless that was 70s, eh who knows)

Carvel, and the commercials and Cookie Puss may be considered 80s. And some people snicker at the idea of food decades..well, check this out:

Nachos were created back in the '40s, IIRC.

I remember ice cream parlors were very big in the early 80's for my crowd.
I think I had ice cream almost every night last week while on vacation and it was so good every time.  8)

Or swallowed off a spoon.

I, however, prefer sucking.
